I am looking for Advice on obtaining a V5
« on: September 20, 2017, 11:57:34 am »
Hi,

I have just joined this forum, I have a 404s which I purchased off eBay about 10 years ago.

It has never been registered in the UK, all I have is a photocopy of it's original factory inspection sheet which proves its age etc.

I have used it for years as an off road toy but now would like to get a number plate so I can drive it on the road etc.

Its is a 59 so it will be tax and Mot exempt.

I called the DVLA and they told me to fill in a NOVA application first, even though I already own it and it has been in the UK for many years.

I have no history of the vehicle, so don't know where its been etc before I got it.

I filled in the form for the NOVA application last week and the DVLA sent me a huge pack of paperwork but there is little to help.

I would appreciate some advice from someone who has done this recently, I know from experience that the DVLA are clamping down on old cars with missing V5s etc so I am bracing myself for a battle.

I presume an age related plate is the best course of action, but what do I register it as etc.

I looked on this forum but didn't see any article covering this, sorry if there is info and I missed it.

Regards, Karl.

How would I know ?

There was no numberplate, military ID or paperwork.

Do you know of a way ?

Afraid I don't, I have managed to get 2 v5s for tractors that were registered before by paying the £25.
Try asking at a local vintage tractor club as it is something they will often come across.

Your right the Dvla are tightening up on things won't help when next year anything over 40 years old is going to be mot free !!!
Ask for the unimog department on 0333 4141 906

The woman that answered the phone couldn't have been less helpful.

Typical person who thinks they own the place, said she had never heard on Malcolm Turner.

After putting me on hold for a few mins she told me to send an email to.

mbukcv_homologation@daimler.com

I have emailed them but don't expect to get a reply.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Karl.

It's a sad state the world nowadays 🙁 google the Unimog meuseum in Germany they may be able to give you a contact at the factory they are great people. I'll also contact an old friend who worked there see what he can find out 👍

Just had a reply back from the email I sent a couple of hours ago saying there are no records of my vehicle at Mercedes Germany.

Odd because the build sheet I have a copy of came from them in 2006.

I think they didn't bother looking.

I don't believe for a second that they have thrown away the data.

Sigh.
