Hi everyone I've got my dream vehicle at last an Unimog ! Yaaaaa
It's a 1958 - 404 with reasonable body chassis and tyres. It's got a few niggles but think it's great. The difference with mine is it was cheap for the reason it has had the petrol engine changed for a diesel from a Mercedes G-wagen (yes those expensive G-wagen things 🌝) now fair enough I'm sort of happy but I've not checked for the gearbox ...and if it's a Mercedes G-wagen box or the Moggy one 🙄 soon bit worried as the Mog one is 6 geared for good reasons off road is probably essential in low ratio with difflock on etc. I don't know how many or what ratios G-wagens are

Im not picking her up until Tuesday so sure but it drives ok.

Thanks .... Simon

Nice one good for you 👍 I would assume it’s a om617 engine the factory did fit the 616 but very rare and a number of people have fitted the 617 they also did this engine in turbo option 👍 it will have the original Unimog gearbox fitted.
Where are you based

Carry some fuel filters on your journey if anything will fail it’ll be fuel filter issues (bio diesel) also when you’ve driven her for half an hour get out and check the hubs for heat if there to hot to touch you have an issue and should stop driving as damage will occur.

Thanks alot good advice I've read up on 'hot hubs' and tbh not given her enough of a test run .I thought of return journey from Grantham to Manchester over the A616 or A50/M6 or even more B roads and take more time ? It's a long way for a Unimog and did think of AA or RAC (Green flag?)breakdown on her. (Maybe weight issue?) But it's a good investment 🤔
Where about's are you based Moose ?

PS.....

AA & RAC don’t cover vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
I got cover with my insurance through Adrian Flux.

However, these guys do a very affordable policy for classic trucks...

Thanks Moose , if anything I can't work out I'll message you but hopefully if it doesn't jump out of gear, stop because of fuel filters or red hot hubs I'll be ok ...😂 Thanks aswel Dan for the link on the breakdown guys I'm not sure of the mogs weight but if it's up to 3.5t it would be £99 pounds ish . Perhaps you could let me know if it's under 3.5t and maybe worth a try with Adrian Flux as had my BMW R75 with them as they good with classics. Thanks All I'm so looking forward to being an unimog owner and hope to meet up at some point 👍
