It looks like about half a dozen people are interested but, as you have said, there has only been limited exposure.  There was talk of a few coming down with several Mogs on a low loader.  I don't know if that is still the case.

Nudge  - can we have the form up soon please so we can get a better idea of numbers?

Thanks Ian. My main concern was that we could be over doing our welcome if too many of us showed up, so that's good to know.

I'll wait to see what Brian has to say on the matter before posting elsewhere. For now I shall crack on with my attempt at a PTO powered spit roaster... 8)

It is up to Brian as to how big he wants the event.  The current area that I have earmarked for camping will comfortably hold 8 - 10 tents and trucks but if the event grows bigger than that then we can either park the trucks in a different clearing in the woods to the camping or set up in a different part of the farm altogether.

When we have held Land Cruiser events there we have had 40+ vehicles and tents.

Now I've spotted that one of my brakes is constantly on I reckon mine will go a bit faster once that's sorted! :D

As a side note, do we want to advertise the meet outside of the forum at all? There will be a few people on Benzworld who I'm sure would be interested, and maybe a couple on Arbtalk too. There are plenty of users who haven't even found this place yet, so maybe pulling a few in this way could be good? I don't know how many we want to have there? How many could it comfortably hold without us getting out of hand?

And I don't know really, we often find that it's not really that much quicker in a car than a 900, but I would just as a precaution :)

Are we still looking at the 12/13th July? I just had a moment of panic, thought a friend's wedding was being arranged for the same date but the mrs has just calmed me down and assures me it's not! :D

Are we any closer to getting the forms sorted Brian? Time's passing fast and I'm getting excited now!

Edit... I just checked a motorway free route to see how long it will take and I'm looking at about an hour and a half. Better allow two in the mog?

I have heard back from Tony and another low loader will not be a problem.
Title: Re: Unimog club uk meet: whos interested?
Post by: IanRubie on February 22, 2014, 06:19:07 am
I have sent the chap who owns the land, Tony, an email asking.  The place we are heading to is a working farm as well as an equestrian centre.  I know they have a horse event the same weekend as we are there but I am not sure how big an event it is.  If it is only a small one then we might be ok to use the area the horse transporters normally park on.

Will post up the answer when I get it.

The current plan for this meet is to use the same venue as a Landcruiser club I am in uses.  Here is a link to the Landcruiser forum Lincomb section  so you can see pictures of previous events and get an idea of the terrain.

Have you tried pulling the info from the hard drive? Even after a pretty major failure there are companies who can get to their contents. It's not cheap, but compared to the time you will spend trying to do everything again it's not so bad!

Is there a list of dates for UK shows that are of interest, I.e. the 2014 Calender?
Open to see steam fairs, classic car, tractor, truck meets, even gate crash mercedes car meets!

Classic tractors are getting a good following and there were a few unimogs at the Atwood bank steam and country fair a few years ago in 2010. This year it's due 7-8 June 2014

Tractor world at Malvern show ground 1 March 2014.

Are there other shows with a good turnout?

A drive to Birmingham could be interesting. Hopefully it makes it that far!

I'm thinking that a straight up UCUK banner may be rude. But a heads up to fellow owners for the UCUK meet isn't. It's friendly and polite to invite others to join in when you do a show, and if they happen to stumble across the forum in the process then that's their business... ;)
Title: Re: Unimog club uk meet: whos interested?
Post by: Villager on October 22, 2013, 05:08:36 pm
yeah i could knock a signature together :) i dont like putting them in my own signatures though because as an admin of the forum thats classed as rude :P the only thing is a signature involving images uses HTML code, and some forums dont support HTML signatures. (including this one i think, but i might change that and have a size limit) this is because HTML signatures can slow down the website. :)
however, other people having a signature to advertise it is perfectly fine :) so i shall make it and supply the image and code. :P

Post by: njc110381 on October 20, 2013, 09:08:11 am
To get that sort of involvement would be amazing. Well done! Could you perhaps get a poster type thing made up that could be posted on other forums as a picture? Places like Benzworld, Arbtalk etc. I'm a member of both so could have it as a banner in my signature? There's also another mog club who's meet went pear shaped a few years back due to venue issues - most of the members there would probably be interested in coming along as they were based over this way somewhere I think.

It sounds like you're putting a bit of work into this. Nice one. It's appreciated.

No idea on the age, but it's getting on a bit! Still runs perfectly though and I don't use it that often so it should last me a while yet.

If you were a bit closer I'd have already been knocking on your door wanting a days work running your kit. I'd happily labour for the day for nothing just to get the experience.

The only time I've seen a mog doing this kind of work was at a job I was doing about ten years ago. A local company turned up with what I think was a U1600 with a huge chipper on the back. They cut down a skinny 30-40 foot conifer, manhandled it into the chipper butt end first with about half a dozen blokes and then stood back as it munched the whole untrimmed thing straight through and fired it in the back. The no-stress was working overtime at first but it only took maybe two or three minutes for it to deal with the task. All in the job took about fifteen minutes from fell to jumping in the trucks and leaving. I've wanted one ever since!

Im intrested any idea of a date in mind ,18 mpg i wish my 404 is lucky to get 10 mpg .Wish  i still had my 401 that did 28 mpg at 50 mph .

currently 12/13 july. are you sure that was a 401? 50 mph is amazing if it was, lucky if you get 30mph. are you sure it wasnt 50k/h? it could have had 600 diffs and hubs fitted, but they struggle to hit 50 anyway. :)

Title: Re: Unimog club uk meet: whos interested?
Post by: njc110381 on October 10, 2013, 07:49:58 pm
Speak for yourself - you've got a decent chipper! ::)

It's not unheard of for me to run my little Entec all day. But then it's the same as the newer Timberwolf 18/100G. Gravity feed, 18hp petrol engine... Not exactly the most powerful or productive machine out there.

You'd have to do some serious felling and have a big place to dump your chip if you were to run your machine all day. 6m3 in 45 minutes! That's some serious turnover... 60m3 per day if dumping on site!
Title: Re: Unimog club uk meet: whos interested?
Post by: casto on October 10, 2013, 06:09:47 pm
i've never been on a job where we have had a chipper running all day!!  :D prob takes 30/45mins to fill her. its enough space to do most normal tree jobs (if there is a thing as normal in trees  ::))

kassy isnt fueled up either so its a big engine doing not very much. she plods around at 40mph and chips at 2000rpm

If you run a chipper the size a Unimog can power I think they will process about 4 m2 of chip per hour? So 90 minutes to fill the back?

My hand fed Trukloder chipper could fill my landy bed in an hour and that was 1.8m2.

I agree, if you're running it solid all day it would probably consume a lot more?
Title: Re: Unimog club uk meet: whos interested?
Post by: Villager on October 08, 2013, 10:24:33 pm
you can get 18mpg out of a 900, more if you drive carefully, regarding filling the tank for chipping, no idea, we never really bothered to check, i know we used to stick a 25 liter barrel of diesel in the back and sometime we used it, sometimes we didnt, i suppose it depends if youre using the chipper all day relentlessly or not.

I've never used more than quater of a tank, so about 20ltrs in a day. That's traveling and chipping. Chip box is about 6cube.  8)

i recon you just stand there and try to look good, cause ive no idea how you manage that! maybe its cause yours has never been fueled up? although we used to fill mass off tractor trailers with the chipper.

I've just spotted a profile with a U2100 listed on it.... I'm going light headed! :D

I always had mogs down as real fuel thirsty beasts? How many litres would you say it would take to drive ten miles to a job, fill the chip box with the chipper and get home again?

I find myself smiling at your logic Casto... It must have cost you more than the entry fee just to get there in the mog? False economy springs to mind!

who mentioned logic being involved  :D ::)

to be fair my 406 is pritty good on the juice, even compared to my 110. i put £50 of white in to go to the show  :'( (after draining all the red out!!) so had half a tank. we drove there, did the road run, drove round the campsite and drove home and used hardly anything. did to jobs with the mog running on white after the show!!  :)  ;D

I did not know of anywhere in Lincomb to go offroading.  :)
It's a private site owned by a friend of mine.  A nice wooded area with plenty of hills and a few bomb holes as well as a very scenic drive round the property (a farm and equestrian centre) including a stretch along the river bank.  There is also a rock crawl section that has been made specially.

We use it twice a year for our Land Cruiser Club meets and it is a very nice site.

Hello everyone!

trying to organise a club meet, it will be hosted in lincomb (just south of birmingham) so a nice central location (apart from those in scotland, and yorkshire  :-\ ), and will be some time in june.
basically, before i make a thread for this, i need to have an idea of how many Mogs will attend, and how many people, their will be a cost (probs around £50) for camping and the off road site. be a big campfire and some good old mog chat there as well :)

So how many people will go, and how many mogs?

Cheers, Brian
