The vin number is usually the best id... It should be (I think) stamped to the side of the passenger side chassis rail near the front. On my 406 it's visible by looking forwards under the wheel arch or from the front of the vehicle.

Here you can see the adapter plate on my 404 setup for perkins 4 cyl . ( if i uploaded correctly :) )
doing a few measurements on the cummins tomorrow im just a little worried on the dia of the shaft into cummins clutch/pressure plate ?? anyone know if i am anywhere close ? i also have the reg plate and gearbox code if someone can point me in the direction of any history of the vehicle. i am told it is an "agricultural " type and it is currently registered as a tractor . any help welcome please . this sure aint no landy lol
