No comment Casto :D

You know the answer to that moose... Give the black mog to casto, and I suppose I wouldn't mind putting myself out a bit and looking after the doka for you if you're really stuck ;)
that lad has some good ideas!!! :D ::)
oh and as far as a g-wagon... get one with an oval badge on it!!.... :P 8)

If I had a lot more money the 63 AMG would be very nice. I'm not sure I like the six wheeler - it's a bit too big.

that g wagon pick up is cracking :)

18 months isn't long?! I was thinking I'd have it looking great by the summer! :o
-
the more you dig the more you will find to do!! I know that! I started mine oct 2012 and still going! Not long in mog terms :o

I've got a habit of taking on too much at once and the trouble is that ends up with none of it being done properly!
I know that feeling :D

Cheers. I'm not sure it's a good move to be thinking about my next vehicle just yet. It sounds like what I want to do is quite a job, so perhaps not really a great idea?
I need to get the mog done first. I'm very happy now it's moving again but I still have some way to go. The more I look at the cab, the more work it needs. I can't decide whether it would be a good idea to simply patch it up, or go in there head on with a shot blaster and get it all back to the bare metal to start again. There are lots of small areas needing attention so a part of me just wants to completely strip it, tidy it all up in one go and have it properly finished again.
I think that could cost a bit, so I will hang back for now. I've got a habit of taking on too much at once and the trouble is that ends up with none of it being done properly!

NJC Pickups are very rare ex ambulance is your best bet and they are all left hand drive, a few peaple have modded them google mick the digger he's done a couple by moving the back of the cab forward but the genuine is flat back and gives more room on the back.
G Wagen/landrover vastly different, capabilities are similar but for different reasons, one is light and nimble the other is a tank with cross axle diflocks in the right circumstances both can excel.

Thanks moose. Is there any hope of finding a pickup here? Or were they never imported? Is it possible to butcher one down to a truck cab as it is with a 90 hard top, or is the construction different?

Best g Brabus v12 twin turbo , google it ! Best g for average man any one with OM 606 170 hp nice simple diesel. Models to suit every need.mechanically very robust early Gs had some issues with wheel bearings and if an idiot was driving you can destroy CVs. And as far as I'm concerned the g is the best made car in the world, and holds its value like no other.
They take a long time to rust but when they go they go, good forums GWOA, POINTED THREE

The HZJ75 looks great. Hard to come by here though. Mind you, so is a G! Anyone get the feeling they're only here through being an awkward sort who likes to step away from the normal vehicles that most folk use?! ::)
-
Not the towing weight Brian just the weight the vehicle can carry, I'm looking at a 3.5 ton 4x4 pick up that i can turn into a tipper for wood chips, the landie 130 is the obvious choice but i really don't like them, so looked at the land cruiser pick up ( seen loads in oz ) but the g wagon would be nice, just throwing ideas about in my head at the moment. :)

This is a subject for Mr Moose really, I'll let him know :)
However, best engine depends on the year, 300GD is a good one though, not the most powerful tug in the world, but after 800,000 miles in ours, we can't really complain ;)
I know that the ones with drum brakes on the rear have a tow limit of 2.8 tonnes (I think) due to UK law, so if you want a 3.5 tonne towing ability, disk brakes it is :)
-
It looks like they're not really made to Uk law spec. Max GVW of the 300cdi van version is 3560kg, and payload is 1050kg. I suppose this could be plated differently for the UK market? Otherwise it's a goods vehicle license for the sake of 60kg!
I'd imagine Merc would have that sorted. But then the pickup wasn't aimed at the UK market, so who knows!
Edit... And not really a derail. It's all info that interests me. Your question prompted me to look at the weights.
-
oh a g wagon pick up would be nice are they 3.5 gvw? sorry for the derail neil :)

Ok. Not really a Unimog topic but close to it. And I know the site owners are pretty keen on these things.
I think I want to buy one... I think. What engine was best? I'd like a manual if such a thing exists? I don't use my pickup much so have considered selling it and getting a little trailer to go behind one of these. Assuming I can't get hold of a G pickup... They do appear from time to time.
Do they have any major issues to look out for?
