Hi BWSwegde,

Just reading through some old threads and realised I didn't post any pics, I'll try and remember to post some tomorrow!

Cheers, Brian

http://www.unimogclubuk.com/tutorials/u800u900u1100-gear-levers/

It's shown by lever G. With lever G, that's the most levers a u900 can have from the factory, which the green 406 now has got :)

If you have Hydrostatic drive, you have different levers, but not as many, I'll see if i can find a picture.

Where abouts is the lever mounted? I've never seen anything extra to the ones I have in mine. That said, I do appreciate that there are so many variations I probably never will see them all!

Yes, the lever in the cab engages the pto.

I'm not afraid to make stuff if I know what I need to be doing. Does it have a lever in the cab to engage it or is it more like the 540/1000 lever on the pto?

Only thing really is it reduces your belly clearance a bit, but its not too drastic really.
I think our's is missing the gear lever and a bit of linkage, but they're not too complicated :)

Is that right. Then nice I'll be! That said, I have no idea what they're worth. If I can afford it, it's something I'd love to have.

I just have the standard 6 speed with cascade. So it sounds like it should fit.

Sorry BWSwede, I assumed that you owned an ex military U900 419, they're basically a 406, but with extra power and military spec.
The 417 gearbox come's from the later U900's (U900.417) they're the one's with a standard 900 cab but a square roof, and was also fitted to some MB tracs I believe.

Neil, I can't think of a reason not to fit an underbelly PTO to your Mog. The only thing I'm aware of is some of the earlier gear box's had a pipe running through (Visible when the square plate is removed from the bottom side of the gearbox), This stops the gear for the PTO from mating with the other gears. However, as far as I'm aware, the pipe's only there for extra lubrication during severe off roading, and can thus be chopped out in most cases.
P.S. We have a spare PTO which Dad MIGHT be willing to sell if you speak to him nicely ;)

I can't think of what would be in the way preventing you to install a bottom pto.  Maybe it doesn't fit on hydrostatic or transmissions with a torque converter.  Do you have one of these?

The bottom pto is nice in that it allows you to direct attach an hydraulic pump that is only limited by the horsepower of the truck.  The hoses that come off the bottom pump look to be about twice the size as the ones that come off the front pump.  I think the bottom pto runs at the same speed as the engine rpms, maybe a little faster.

Wish I could help more...

I've just read over the posts again and notice that you have front, rear and bottom PTO. Some thing in my mind has always told me that I couldn't have the bottom PTO on mine due to something else being there? But then it seems your case is the 20 speed, so it won't be the cascade getting in the way?

Can you shed any light on this? I'd love a higher flow hydraulic setup on mine if it's possible to get. I'd really like to be able to swap my Hycrack log splitter for a large hydraulic one but the standard 406 pump is both slow and under powered for the job.

All in the family is good enough for me.

Yes the Sepson is worm drive.

I am not familiar with a 419 Unimog.  Is the 417 gearbox it uses the same as the square cab mogs?

I had not thought about using the bottom PTO for powering a crane.  It has an hydraulic pump and I think 10 gallon tank.  It was setup on my truck by Case to be usually used by their model 480 or 580 backhoe.

My hard drive crashed last summer and I lost all my pictures.  I'll pull some off the Internet that I posted pre-crash and post them on the picture forum.

Thank you very much for offering to take pictures of the front blade setup.  I am really curious to know how it attaches.

Best,
BWSwede

I must stress that out of those, only the 411.120 and 1100 can truly be said are mine (1100 is shared ownership with dad), the other's are my Dads, but as he doesn't put them on his own profile, I take that liberty :P ;)

Good call on the PTO winch, one thing I always stress is that you can not beat a mechanical winch, hydraulic and electric will never pull as well, because there's no solid connection. Is the Sepson worm drive?

The 419 tends to be a very spurious mog, It uses a 406 cab, but I've seen some use the 417 2" cab lift, and also use the 417 gearbox.
They seem to be a good mog, and also came as standard with 110bhp, rather than the civilian 84.
The high speed underbelly pto's are very good for cranes. The green Unimog has one for the crane on the back. it used to run of the standard hydraulics, but was slow and struggled to lift, now it's like a completely different crane :)

Any pictures? Both with the winch and the blower? We like pictures on here :)

I'll take some pictures for you of the blade setup, If I don't post them up feel free to remind me, I have the worlds worst memory, a fact which people pick up on quite quickly :)

And this is a forum for people of a similar interest, you should feel welcome, if you're willing to talk mog's, we're willing to listen :P

Cheers, Brian  ;D

Thanks for the quick replies and warm welcome guys.

Both of you have own my favorite types of Unimogs.  Especially you Villager, you've got one for just about everyday of the week.

The winch on Villager's dad's truck is incredible both in the features it has and in its pulling power.  I thought my front winch was nice.  It is a Sepson PTO winch with power-in (of course) power-out, and free-wheel.  I don't know what the pulling power is but it seems to get the job done for my 406.

My truck is one of the trucks that Case bought and modified to work with their line of implements.  It has ROPS, FOPS, and the deck they made to fit the Unimog frame.  It has PTO's front, rear, and bottom.  The bottom PTO runs a high volume hydraulic pump.  I also have the standard hydraulics.  It has the 20 speed transmission.  I also have the Case version of a 3 point hitch for the rear.   Prior to me purchasing the truck it was used as a snow plow at a ski area on the east coast of the USA.  Despite the truck only has 1300 hours and 7000 miles I hired a factory trained mechanic to put a new double clutch in and to rebuild the transmission.  The previous owner didn't use the truck much which dried out the transmission seals causing the tranny to run low on oil which destroyed the synchros.  Prior to this truck I had a 416 Doka, also with a 20 speed transmission, hydraulics, but only a front PTO.  It was a real nice truck that was refurbished in the USA by a ex-german dealer.

In the winter I remove the PTO front winch and run a 7' two stage snowblower on the front.  It is a standard rear mount Farm King blower that I made to fit my front Schmidt hitch.  I bought a PTO reverser from Atkinson VOS a couple years ago to reverse the PTO direction.  It works real well.

In the summer I use the truck to do weekend logging on my family's property (and on occasion for friends).  I have a Farmi JL501 that does an amazing job of yarding in logs.  I would like to add a log lifter like Villager's dad has but they are few and far between in the USA.  I have resolved myself to the fact that if I want one of these I may have to make one (not that I have that skill set at the moment).  I only know of one of those attachments in the entire USA, although there could be a couple I am not aware of.  I have found a couple for sale in Europe but they won't ship to the USA.

I have been scouring the Internet not only looking for ones for sale but also looking at pictures of the ones I find.  I have an idea of how they work but I have yet to find up close pictures of how they attach to the front of the truck.  I plan on spending time looking for photos on this site of Villager's dad's setup.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.  I already feel at home.

Hello BWswede, Welcome to the forum :)

That is indeed my Dad's Unimog :) He bought it in 1996/7ish, I remember waking up in the morning and my mum bringing me downstairs, opening the door, and there in front of me was this big green army truck :)
This is my favourite of all the Unimog's, and is the one mog I've asked my dad not to sell :P

The winch is a Werner F56, one of the best really, autospool, variable speed and pull, with 7.5 tonnes LIFTING capacity.
The Winch blade, or log lifter, is also Werner, unfortunately we had the winch blade stolen several years ago now. Quite annoying as the blades themselves don't tend to be sold without the rest of the assembly, one day we'll get around to making a new one.
The reason the blade is removable is because in europe it is law that when on the road the blade is removed and put in the back. Sometimes you can come across UK blades, where it is not removable.

Just a side note, the colour is actually saft grun (colour code MB6821) It's very faded and in some camera light's does look blue :)

Everybody I speak to about this mog says they see it everywhere on the internet, but I've only ever seen it on the posts i put, and on youtube where the club has a couple of videos :P

Feel free to ask any questions :) great to have another mog fan on board. Cheers, Brian  ;D

Welcome to the forum bwswede. It's good to see you on here.

The doka belongs to the father of the site owner - moose is the man you need to speak to. If one of them doesn't come along in the next day or so I'll drop him an email to let him know you want to speak to him.

It's a nice mog - my favourite of all the machines I've seen.

Hello,

I have seen several great videos of the blue doka in the picture at the top of the page.   It is quite a machine.  I use my 406 for logging (among other things) and want to acquire/build the log lifter/pusher like he has on his mog.  If the owner of the mog is reading this would you please contact me either in this thread or via a personal message.  If he is not a regular visitor of the site perhaps someone knows who he is wouldn't mind sending me a PM with his contact information.

I just found this forum so I am excited to catch up on all the great threads!

Thank you,
BWSwede
