money has been the ruin of many a man :)
-
And mine. A bit too laid back at times to get rich but hey, there's more to life than money!
-
Maybe its because I have such a cool boss!!!!! ::) :o :)
My boss is pretty epic as well ;) 8)
-
As a non Mog owner, I spend my time designing in my head how mine will look when I pick one up.
Until that day I design and have made (here in the UK) 4X4 equipment for competition, Rescue and Expedition 4x4s.
I work from home so I'm used to putting in 16-20 hour days when not spending time with the missus.
It's not uncommon at all when I'm on a roll to work 2 days without sleep as I just can't stop.
My mates say its sad, but deep down I think they are all jealous and wish they had hobbies that they have turned into jobs that they love.
Maybe its because I have such a cool boss!!!!! ::) :o :)
Apart from designing bespoke off road products, I have also hand picked top brands I consider the world leaders in their field. My idea is to create a store (online to begin with, but retail soon as possible) that only supplies high end gear at sensible prices, and not ripping customers off just because it says "expedition" or "overland" on the packet.
I may never be rich with that attitude but I will be happy, my customers are all happy, they all come back and all recommend me so I can live with that.
Hell, if I had a Unimog as a company vehicle I could possibly have the best job ever!!! ;D

I was kind of aiming at something cheap to run. Army truck isn't quite going to make the grade!
Brian - deer taste great. Can't you cook up something for your mum to change her mind? My mrs was veggie from birth until she was 25, she ate venison cottage pie twice this week! Shooting some of them is essential to maintain a healthy population. Shooting deer is actually good for them - well maybe not the one you shoot but the rest of them! You're talking to the master of the art of justification. ;)
Foxes are a bit harder to explain off. I think you need to see first hand what they can do to a hen house or newborn lamb to appreciate that some of them need to be culled. But then even foxes are nice to see in areas where they're not harming anything. No point shooting them for the sake of it.

You've already got a mog though! I was thinking a six foot square sign written chip box would draw attention too!
yeah thats true, but the mog isnt out that often. i still need to sign the mog cab up yet :).
how about an old renault army wagon ;D bet your lass would love that :D
-
yeah, she likes the deers and the foxs, even though weve got hundreds around here. personally i dont buy french vehicles, but some people love them. if i was to go for a really compact 4x4, id go for an old fiat panda 4x4! 8) the running gear is steyr puch so theyre pretty awesome. i wouldnt go for a new one though.
-
I was thinking about one of those silly little 4x4 Renault things. I need 4wd to get into (or rather out of) the estates I shoot to haul the deer out!
Going back to shooting, how come your mum doesn't like you using the .243? Is it the things you shoot with it that are the issue?!

regarding a van, i would highly recommend a combo, best van ever imo :) only time i had a hangover was one time when i went to germany, we went out on this thursday where they do nothing but drink beer and eat food ;D i have never drunk so much in my life! it was safe to say, i didnt feel too good the next day :-[ :( i've also been invited to this 12 day drinking thing, where youre only allowed to drink beer, and one cup of coffee in the morning, as i dont drink coffee, i can only have beer! :D

Yeah I thought about selling the defender but its advertising 4 me
-
personally i dont like whiskey :-\ cider, bitter and stout man myself, my favourite drink is merry down cider, closely followed by guiness, then theakstons. :)
It's a very acquired taste. I blame my grandad for letting me try it when I was little. I hated it then but now it's grown on me! Stranger still is that nearly 30 years later the whisky he used to give me is my favourite brand!
I don't like lager or beer at all unless I'm putting it in a steak pie! I can do cider, but only a couple of pints because it hurts me. I once had two bottles of Katy and was sick, but fill two Katy bottles with whisky and I'll be fine - very drunk but not ill?! Usually I don't even get a hangover on it.
I think I may become a little van driver soon. A lot of the time I subcontract and only drive to my mates garage, park up and jump in his truck. It seems silly to drive a thirsty pickup to do that when I could sell it and Put the money towards a mog. I could then use the mog for all the heavy work and that three way tipping bed would be really handy!
-
Lol yeah its my other mate that has the caddy :D there all little vans and look about the same lol

Shooting wise my favorite is shot gun (generally pigeon and pheasant, and crows and mag pies when we see them), i used to be really good at it but havent shot in a while so my eye will probably be out. i got to the stage where with clay pigeons i could have the shot gun folded and down by my side, and the guy next to me would be ready with the gun against his shoulder and i'd still beat him to it. 8) the trick is not to focus to hard and to follow through with the gun.
we also go rifle shooting with the .22 we go lamping mainly for rabbits, we're over ridden here :-\ but we also have a 243 which we use very rarely cause of mum ::) .
i dont know what id do if my combo was set on fire :( and i dont have the caddy anymore casto, got rid of that about a year ago :)
-
I'm not fussy. i can't remember what I :-[ drank the other night (well there were 5 bottles out :)) I go out with the air riffles with mates now and again mostly after rabbit, squirrel and pigeon.
ha, poor brian would cry if u burnt the caddy :D
-
Well if u come to a show bring a bottle of whiskey with u ;D
Bring a bottle... What just one? And you want me to share it? :o
What's your preference? A Scottish whisky - personally I like Glenmorangie, or maybe Singleton if I fancy something sweet and mild, or would you prefer Whiskey with an E in it... Jamesons or maybe JD?
It sounds like we're all outdoor sorts. What sort of shooting do you do Brian? That's probably by far my biggest obsession in life!
I'm sure a meet would go really well with a group of like minded folk. All I'd have to bring is a couple of bottles of malt so there's plenty to go around and a box of matches to turn that combo van into a camp fire! ;D
-
the boilers we supply can burn woodchips, **** straw, miscanthus, pellets, and more and you can change the fuel by the press of a couple of buttons.
i dont do pubs much either, i much prefer camping, with a fire and barbecue. and i'll have a couple of beers at the same time :)
-
The biomass thing sounds good. Do you burn wood chip that you make or are you buying the purpose made pellets.
I looked into biomass as an option for my place, bud decided that storing the fuel would be a waste of unimog garage space.
As for me, I work for myself doing TDI engine and gearbox conversions on VW transporters. It keeps me busy and I enjoy travelling so the campervan live style suits me well.
I'm not really much into the pub culture, but enjoy the great out doors and spend as much time as I can visiting places both near and far, UK and abroad.

Bi also have a vauxhall combo C with an 800 watt 12 inch subwoofer , 2 240 watt 6x9's
U hear him before u see him! :o :D
I have the ability to disable the sub box completely and even remove it :D all it takes is to unplug it and lift it out, youll see if you read the thread :) but yes, it does make the van vibrate and rattle 8) ;D but i turn it down when i go through towns and villages, only motorways i have it loud really :)

I have to play on a decent sized table to be any good at pool, it also helps if ive had a few ;D
we tend to go offroading with the mogs and attend classic rallies. and the odd paddock or tree job. the little orange 411 we use to collect timber
for hobbies i go offroading... shooting, working on unimogs.
i also have a vauxhall combo C with an 800 watt 12 inch subwoofer , 2 240 watt 6x9's (all this into one built in box acting as bulk head, these are driven by a 720 watt amp and a 200 watt dpx404u head unit. then in the doors i have 2 100 watt 16.5's and 2 tweeters with passive crossovers 8), all of this is kenwood, except the 6x9s which will be eventually. you can find the build thread here http://vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/index.php?threads/the-corsa-combo-project-worlds-slowest.315690/
So basically anything to do with cars. i also enjoy cycling and rugby.
Job wise i run a Biomass heating company with my dad, originally i wanted to work in the forestry industry but then we started the biomass business and really enjoy it, ive also learnt a lot about heating systems. heres our website http://www.everlastenergy.co.uk/

Yeah I'm going 2 try doing a full paddock service. Fencing, topping, spraying, airation so on. I'm looking at flails as a tipper isn't as good. To be fair if u make money then its all good ;D
Well if u come to a show bring a bottle of whiskey with u ;D I enjoy camping too, i've beem to a few landy shows with a couple of groups. My pool is good at pint 3 but screwed b4 or after :-\
-
I'd be interested to hear how well the field work grows in the future, and what you've done to achieve it. I'd quite like to lean a bit more in that direction but haven't got the first idea where to start or what rates to charge?
My playing pool pretty much comes down to enjoying a few drinks and some good food. The pool comes second to the whisky that's for sure, and I'm never that good by the end of the night!
-
Well my truck is a proper working truck. She's out with a chipper on her, or in fields with a 5ft topper.
I'm same as u, doing landscaping and tree work, hoping to expand to field work.
I'm self employed so I work when the work comes in. I used to play hockey every weekend for a local club (about 2-3 games a weekemd) then got into my landys so go around green lanes or fixing my mates! Otherwise i'll eat and drink and have a laugh. i'm a simple lad lol :P
-
I was thinking the other day, what do all you Mog folk do with your trucks? And when you're not in them what do you like to do with yourselves?
My hobbies are shooting and playing pool. I also try to volunteer for our local wildlife trust now and again to keep one of their reserves looking nice.
As a job I'm a landscaper, so patios, fences etc and a bit of gardening too. I like tree felling - would have got into arb work if I wasn't completely scared out of my mind when I get more than 10' off the ground! I'm a bit of a tool perv too apparently. or at least that's what the mrs says when I buy yet another piece of kit that I don't really need just because it looks fun! :D
What do you guys do with yourselves?
