Welcome to the forum Jason.

Castor is right. There's nothing wrong with foolish ideas. Generally they bring us a lot of enjoyment. The bank manager may well disagree, but what do they know anyway?!  :D

Hello Casto, Thanks for the welcome.

Its early days yet. Probably won't be for a year before I will be able to get one (if at all).  The thought was a long term project up until retirement. Probably foolish ideas, but who knows.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info.  :) The 1700L is the only style the government is auctioning. Was considering to put Range Rover seats but maybe proper truck pneumatic seats if necessary. Heard about pneumatic suspension conversion also, but probably too expensive.

Hi Jason,

Welcome to the forum :)

Regarding the 1700, it's a very heavy chassis and can be uncomfortable for a conversion such as a camper. the better chassis would be a 1550 if you can get one, you just have to be careful not to overload them though.

Cheers, Brian  ;D

:) Hello Jason here from Sydney. I have a Land Rover D1 but underpowered even after 5 years of tweaking the air, fuel etc.
Looking at acquiring a UL1700L to performance enhance (maybe to 250BHP if the engine can handle it by fuel and air increase etc ?) and rebuild as a motor home project to keep me busy for a few years before I retire and then maybe, (God willing) do the round Australia (Grey Nomad, as they are called here) trip with my wife Sharon. All depends on whether I can get a good one from the Army auctions at the right price. Thinking of even buying a small caravan and plonking it on the back tray to make life easier that a custom build.
