Even after following that I've managed to get it a bit on the short side! It works, but there's a bit of room for the shaft to be longer. I forgot to allow for the fact that it's slightly offset. ::)
It works though so I shouldn't grumble.

What ever the length u need 2 cut off take half of each end. So if ur shaft is 6inch to long take 3inch of each end of the shaft plus give a bit so they don't hit (say half inch of each side) well that's how we have done it before. Usually cut it off with angle grinder or steel chop saw

ask my dad! :D i cant explain it, he just does it and i watch. i know how but i dont know how to put it into words :( he just estimates it really, the longer you make each length the better obviously, that way theirs less chance of it coming apart.

I picked my new saw bench up today. It looks in great condition and came with a PTO shaft, but the shaft is too long. How do I measure it up properly so it will fit and how do I go about cutting it down?
