Title: Hi there! I need a mog!
Post by: elfuegohd on August 12, 2018, 07:18:33 pm
Hi there,
New to the group, desperate wanting a Unimog! Tks for the add!
I've got a Jeep Cherokee XJ at the moment, and also into Harley-Davidson bikes, and just started applying for my HGV licence, so hopefully will have that in a couple of months time or so...
Then I can properly start looking for the Unimog.
I'm well confused about what model to go for... love the 404s, but a bit concerned about the power on the M180 but also have never driven one... just heard about it... I'm not planning any heavy off road, will use mainly to cruise around... proper toy... but wanna go for the 47 tyres with bed and cabin lift etc... also could consider a LPG kit... good or bad idea? Would be probably doing 50/50 onroad/offroad..
But also love the idea of a diesel 416 with disc brakes and power steering...
Would appreciate any input from you guys about both models pls... pros/cons... easy maintenance? Parts availability etc... I'm good with tools, can do pretty much anything on my cars/bikes....
many thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

You've gone for the 2 ideal mogs for your situation.

404 with lpg is a good call, bit gutless on the hills but parts are easily available now due to there being so many made and the armys getting rid of parts.
416 is good on power, especially if it's fueled up, it'll do 50mph with standard axles and is fairly comfy in the cab, the long wheelbase is stable for offroad use and makes it more comfortable on the road. parts are starting to get hard to find though.

cheers, Brian
