I'm pretty sure it was sold too. They've had some pretty major changes in vehicles over the last couple of years I think....

Longest trip I've taken on in mine was about 50 miles. Just forget rushing and get there in your own time. These machines are designed to run all day without issue.

Spot on. Enough power in a small (ish) package.

I suppose all the technology needed to do some jobs does take up space, but you'd think there would be somewhere in the market for a small machine. Even the U20 was pretty massive. The last real light machine I think was the U90 - something I've looked at and considered.

If my 406 had just a bit more power it would be much more user friendly. I don't mind the noise or the cramped cab. What does bother me is not being able to do more than about 30mph up a hill even when empty! Driving your 1450 was an eye opener. That's an incredible machine and one that I will always hope to own one day.

I got miffed as soon as they decided to make an implement carrier and what is essentially a posh off road lorry. The one that can do proper work is less able off road then the lorry, which just doesn't make sense in my mind. Hey ho, I don't suppose there will be many modern ones pulling timber out of forests in years to come. They'll figure it out eventually and hopefully will undo their silly changes!

Edit... I believe the closest thing we have to the Reform is an Aebi in this country.

404 seems to be the more reasonably priced way to get into mog ownership. I wanted mine for work, running a chipper and log splitter etc so bought a 406. That's what I'd tend to view as a proper Unimog, as in universal. But for off roading a 404 takes some stopping! It'll put a 101 to shame of that I'm certain!

No harm in giving it a go as long as you've got the means to get it out. In his defence, he did say "we'll probably get stuck but lets give it a go". It's all good fun!

That's smart. Would look a bit funny with a linkage on the front though! :D

That's fantastic news Phill! You had me worried for a moment. I don't suppose those parts would have been cheap?!

It was a fantastic weekend that. A bit breezy but tolerable, and we did get to cook outside a bit.

I don't think I need to point out the best bit but I will anyway. Driving the 1450 was an experience I'll never forget. I need one! Oh and Moose getting stuck was funny too....

That pretty much sums it up. Apparently there was very little damage, he was ok and they carried on, so all was well. The only issue he had, and the reason for a lot of mucking about when it went over, is that the engine wouldn't turn off. Apparently he had to select a high gear and stall it?

Back on the original topic, I look forward to seeing your progress with your new 411. I really like the older Unimogs. That's where my interest lies and seeing them working is just fantastic. I must say though, driving Moose's 1450 brought a whole new experience of comfort and power compared to my 406!

I know the old owner of that U1000 in the video. He was the first person ever to take me around an off road site in a Unimog - that Unimog! Tom was his name, a chap with lots of interest in everything unusual. I think he sold the Unimog and bought an old American Chevy pickup when he got bored of off roading.

It's a shame he tied it to that tree. I'm pretty sure it would have made it down there fine without the hindrance of that winch line pulling him over.

That's a really smart job. It must have taken quite a lot of time to do to that standard? I'd imagine it will reduce cab noise by quite a lot, so a job well worth doing.

Oh go on then, as you asked! Drop me a message to let me know how you'd like to be paid.
