Unimog's For Sale / U1600 for sale, excellent condition

I am reluctantly having to sell my U1600, South Cave tractors have put it on their web site for me.

The main reason for selling is another mid-life crisis - have just bought a Tesla Model S.

Photos to follow shortly

Fitted my small hiab on a home made 3 point linkage frame, easy to fit, will pick up and load onto Mog load bed.

Its an odd shape, fitting behind the DIN mount, so I have no real idea. South Cave said it would do, though!

Its only a 12 tonner, but it needs all the oil in the extended tank that I had fitted to tip it. Back axle feels a bit light just before the load comes off!

Mog at work. Although the trailer looks fairly full, there will not be that much more than 12 tonnes load on.

Does anyone have a good source for the rocker switches which fit in the large cutouts in the dash? All the regular ones are too small.

Engine is supposed to be 160 hp. Ought to get it on a dyno when the local tractor dealers have one in the yard. Many of the details on the id plate have worn off.

When we towed the 404 back to where I lived in Malawi, it had water standing in the bores and needed brake fluid and other stuff to soak, then a lump of wood and a large hammer to free off the piston rings. Engine ran fine after that!

I asked the guys at South Cave, they said it was too far gone to determine the cause.

I guess it will be mostly trailer work, some linkage work at peak periods grass silage making, and see how we go with other jobs. Had hydraulic trailer brakes and an extra oil tank for tipping trailers added.

Took delivery of the machine from South Cave yesterday to add to our farm fleet, the first Unimog on the farm.

I have owned one before, while working in Malawi, a 1957 404

Bringing it home:
