Where I live there are three army driver training areas within 2 miles of the house.  Various 4x4 clubs get access to the land and they are great pay and play sites.  Unfortunately the army are leaving the town in the summer and access to the land is going to be lost.

I have sold this 404 now but what would you like to know about it?

... if it falls in the mot free zone
I think the only way to be MOT free is to be a recovery vehicle or an agricultural one.  There are restrictions on distance from base if you go the agri route.

I was told my 404 was MOT exempt when I bought it.  Turns out it is not.  This is not an issue though because, in my opinion, if it can't pass an MOT it should not be on the road anyway.

have you modded anything else in the suspension?

The top damper mounts have been lowered and the original rear springs have been put on the front.  The rear springs are 4" lift Jeep TJ ones.

I would say the TJ springs have helped.  The original springs obviously had to cope with max vehicle weight.  I'm nowhere near that so the springs were way too stiff and did not compress well.  As you can see the TJ ones compress nicely with only about 20kg of stuff in the box.

Just a quick video of my 404 climbing a hill.  Shows the rear articulation quite nicely.

The events in question are only pay and play days, the AWDC still run competitive events.

It is not confirmed but the story is that drivers at the AWDC pay and play days were regularly going into the no go areas and the sites were being left in a mess rubbish wise so the AWDC were banned from the Bordon MOD sites.  Other clubs are still allowed on the sites.

That is a more reasonable journey time  :)

Was good to put some faces to names.  Roll on the next one.

I am sure we can buy some logs from Tony if needed.  Having said that I have some wood here that I can bring.

No I don't have a cruiser any more. Replaced my last one with the 404 and ML combination.

IMPORTANT

I have just had a call from Tony, the land owner at Lincomb, he cannot get his mower up to the area that was planned for us to camp in.  He says it is quite overgrown and would not be a nice place to stay.

Due to this he has asked that we camp on the farm instead.  This is actually better for us as it is much closer to the toilets and showers.  To get to the new camp area, drive through the farm yard - SLOWLY PLEASE, follow the signs for Lincomb Equestrian.  As you come out of the yard turn right on to the grass sign posted as parking.  Park up along the hedge on the right.  Go as far along the field as possible.  Apparently there are a couple of 1000 litre IBCs in the middle of the field so you will know if you are in the right place.

You should see either my silver Mercedes ML or my 404.

We can still have our fire :)

See you there.

Looking forward to this.

I have sent a rough map of the site to Villager. Hopefully he will either post it here or forward the link to all who have registered.
EDIT - See below post, this map is now out of date.

Villager, do you have the number of trucks coming?

As said above, I am aiming to arrive around 11.30am and will put up some direction arrows for the camp area.
