How Do I Do This? / Re: Unimog u1000 rim size upgrade
« on: May 25, 2020, 02:07:51 pm »
Can you show us a picture of the rims you intend to use, are you concerned that they wouldn't have enough offset to clear? what are the rims off & are the tyres suitable for whatever you are doing with the u1000.

Welcome to the forum, any chance you could start a build thread or show us some pictures of the cab you are building.

Another one is removing bearings from a tight housing using a weld bead to shrink it.

One of my favourites is removing broken studs by either welding a nut or washer on & then just unscrew them.

Thought I would start a thread here for workshop tips & home made tools etc doesn't have to be Unimog or M.B Trac specific but would prefer if they were relevant  for either or their implements.

Hi Tommy, do you happen to remember which model Unimog was working on the farm & what sort of work it did?
I don't remember many working in my area although a local contractor had a couple u900s which eventually were replaced by M.B Tracs.
The M.B Trac was more popular & we had a local dealership selling them but I only know of a mb1000 now & a handful of Unimogs.

We found making cross section of cills to look like this l/ prevented them bellying quite so bad in challenge events.

I quite like the Grand Vitara rims I have them on the Blitz, only problem I can see is they are going to increase your turning circle over standard off set rims which is not good for trials but if you are only competing against landrovers it's not going to cause you any issues

That's going to be a massive project. I seem to remember the fiat twincam engine was a popular swap for the Lada's.

You will get far better advice on this forum than I can offer but if you have steep hilly ground I would suggest adding chevron tread pattern tractor type tyres to your list. Good luck with the search & looking forward to some pictures when you change your user name to foundamog.
