General Banter! / Unimog Storage - South England
« on: November 02, 2018, 05:58:00 am »
Hi

At the moment I have my Unimog parked near my house at a local nursery. But I would love to find a place to store her inside.

Anybody got ideas? - Would love for it to be near my house (60 min)

I am based in Surbiton.

Gerard

« on: July 04, 2014, 10:40:40 am »
Hi All

Any suggestions on who provides reasonable insurance?

I am currently with Adrian Flux and they are offering £534 for the year.

Anybody have a better source?

Kind regards

General Banter! / Unimog Insurance

Hi All

I am looking for the best / cheapest Unimog 3de party insurance.

Last year I used Adrian Flux and got insurance based on the assumption that I am in the process of conversion. However my conversion is not done and so they no longer ant to give me insurance.

Any advice on where I can get the legal limit required 3de party insurance for my Unimog?

Thx in advance

Gerard

 - we will be camping. - Anybody going?

Walters Spring Break 2013

Spring Break is  being staged to allow all members of the club to enjoy the 1600 acres of exceptional off-road terrain at this popular South Wales site in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere.
We will have exclusive use of the site over the weekend of 18-19 May and a variety of optional activities will be set out to allow drivers of all types of vehicles to explore the site.
Orienteering and navigational exercises will allow those unfamiliar with the site to head out and test their ground and map reading skills as they hunt for a variety of punches and code boards distributed around the area. Ideally suited to members with even the most pristine of vehicles the wide tracks that traverse the site can be explored without fear of vehicle damage. For those looking to put more modified vehicles through their paces there will be a number of trials sections laid out around the site which will vary in severity and represent the wide ranges of trials disciplines the club organises from Tyro and SVT through to Modified. Owners of winch equipped vehicles will be able to test their skills on a number of sections recreated from the many Challenge events the club has hosted on the site.

There will be convoy drives scheduled for both days which will lead vehicles around the 18.5 course from the 2012 King of the Valleys event. Optional by-pass routes will be available for drivers who do not wish to tackle the most arduous parts of the course.

All of the activities laid out will be non-competitive and entirely optional. If you simply want to come along with a group of friends and explore the area then you will be more than welcome. A 20mph speed limit will be in force on the site.

A dedicated area will be available where speed/suspension testing may take place. Use of this area will be subject to approval by Scrutineers/Event Officials. No spectators will be permitted within this area.

Camping, catering and toilets will be available on site and bookings will be taken in advance either for the weekend or individual days.

Genuine Mercedes Unimog Parts / Unimog Insignia
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:36:08 pm »
Other than the big Merc sign my Unimog does not have any markings.

Where can I get Unimog name badges or insignia? For example I would be looking for:

 - The Square on the from grill that would say Unimog
 - The badge on the door that says U 1550 L

Any suggestions?

Kind regards

Driverounds at Bordon. Just down A3 from Surbiton to Guildford, then A31 and A325....

We have had several overlanders come for a shakedown of their vehicles; trucks like Mercedes vans, Leylad Daf, Bedford and even a Ural. Our next event is Sunday 17 February at Slab

Introduce Yourself / Hi New Member
« on: February 17, 2013, 05:06:56 pm »
This feels slightly like an opening sessions for AA. But here goes.

Always been a Toyota man, Hilux and now LC. But when we (My wife and two young sons) started thinking about a year drive back through Africa we wanted to remain part of a community of owners which is larger than the vehicle. We also have two kids and thus we had to decide trailer or truck.

As I am not a trailer fan we went for truck and after reading many reviews we ended up on the Unimog. But specifically a doka so that the kids could ride upfront.

Thus in Jan 2010 we started planning and searching. I got my HGV license in June 2011 and a miracles happened as a friend phoned me up to say he knows of a doka which the owner wants to sell.

We purchased her in July 2011 and drove her up to Atkinson Vos who has now delivered her back to us.

We have been making many drawings and talking to many people - Great community - and now we will "play" with her over the summer before spending the winter months building the living box.

We are not in such a hurry - as my youngest is now only 1 and he needs to be 4 before we can leave.

That is me in a nutshell. A Novice looking to learn.
