General Banter! / 421 what are they like
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:41:58 pm »
I have seen a 421 for sale on one of our sale sites over here
I know I shouldn't, but!
Just wanted to ask the experts out there, what are they like? (I've only had 404's)
Here is a link to the advert,
http://www.kapaza.be/nl/machines-en-tractoren/unimog-421-diesel-in-originele-staat-98960887.htm

And a translation
Unimog 421,
In original condition, with some work needed on the body
4 cylinder Diesel engine, with pto, hydraulics front and rear
3 link, tow hook
From 1975 with 95484 km.
There is a problem with the brake on the front left, chassis and mechanicals in order, all tested, engine starts and runs
Possible for MOT for 3500kg with B licence
comes with papers, a copy of last inspection card and proof of purchase
There was contact with the importer, Mercedes Benz, and the chassis number is correct
Pice is 3300 euro and negotiable

What do you think?
Cheers
Shaun

Mog Spotting / To late for a picture
« on: August 30, 2015, 07:49:01 pm »
Was out the front today installing a new fence, went to the back to mix up some cement, and as usual where I live there is lots of tractors, I heard one go past, then another, then another, thought to myself that's not normal, so went out the front and it was a classic tractor rally.
Some amazing machines, then suddenly I see two 411's coming past, was too late with my camera.
Lots more old tractors, then two mint condition MB trak's
Next time they come past I will be ready armed with my camera
I will have a look to see if I can find some pictures, one of my friends is in the club so he may post some on line!
Lesson learnt, always be ready with the camera, you never know what you may see!

General Banter! / Merc Pistons

Hi all, does anyone have access to a Mercedes parts list (on c.d. Perhaps)

I have found some new piston/liner kits at work, would like to know what they fit

On the box it says Mercedes Benz 003 45 96

Did a Google search and all it comes up with is "piston liner kit"

Thanks
Shaun

General Banter! / Re: What's everyone been up to recently?

Unfortunately that's what happens, life gets in the way.

When I got my latest 404 home I was full of go to get her done, then I had other work to do in and around the house, things got really busy at work, so the mog fell down the priority list!
This Sunday I said I would make an effort to do something on her, (all progress is good progress!)
So I took out the gauges of the dash, before I owned her, it had previously had a short circuit and melted a lot of wires. So I'm doing a little mod while I'm at it!
Will have to update my thread, and will keep trying to do bits now and again

I also see a mog on the way home the other day, working on the road (Tarmac wagon) will dig the picture out and post it

Cheers again
Shaun

Hi Rob, she looks tidy

I'm also doing up my 404 for playing and having fun (bit too far from you though) although if your ever over here pop in for a cuppa.

If you need any wheels/tyres I have about 60 at work!  :o

Cheers

Hi,

I'm not sure they would be able to help (I hope you can prove me wrong) when doing a search for my stalwarts history I had to send a cheque for £25 (non refundable if no records found) to military vehicle museum, (I believe it has now changed location) but as the 404 was not in UK service you won't find its history through the usual UK channels. It will either be ex German, Belgian or French army.
I wish you luck.
Cheers

turnip, that actually looks quite good, looks like it has used a safari roof for the conversion.
my truck cab is the rounded roof type so would be a little more tricky to convert.  :)

To be honest, to modify a Land Rover truck cab would need so much work, widen and lengthen, that it would probably be better to just make a complete new cab!
I have a truck cab sat in the garage if you need any measurements!  :)

Looks like a good project, I have seen worse than that reserected, should be quite simple to repair, you'll have fun.  ;)

I do like the look of the closed cabs!
So what's your plan with it? Restore it as a fire truck?

Ha ha I also often look at the stats. It is strange how some days there is a big useage then the rest of the time not so many,
Since joining the forum I try to be on as much as I can, but I don't want to just reply for the sake of it, I try to be helpful if I can.  ;)
