General Banter! / Re: Help with 421 rings

They were Mahle (4th rebore) set, rare and had to shell out the big bucks in the end. It was a size bigger than Merc recommended boring to apparently.

Cheers Moose. Looks like it is the 616 engine as the engine number starts with 616.
I trie Manfred P already plus plenty of others. This I have finally found a set. Almost 400 euro though!Hopefully this will be the last piece of jigsaw for motoring. I can get another 616 engine from a car for the same price. The clutch may be a problem joining up and also wouldn't know its history. Thanks for responding.

General Banter! / Help with 421 rings
« on: September 01, 2019, 12:08:49 pm »
My ‘75 421 engine is ready to be put back together and finally have some chance of starting. Maybe even using it some day :)

The rings needed are 92mm 3mm2mm and 4mm oil seal). The largest  oversized available is 91.5. (616.915-10-002714)
Don’t seem to be available at all. Any thoughts where to source or why the big bore? I was hoping these rings are used in another merc engine or other vehicle but can’t make any headway.

Thanks for that. Only just seeing this. apologies. I’ll look into it.
A friend managed to fix it up good enough to test everything out at least.
So for the mean time I’ll go with that till I know all else is ok. Merc were looking for the wrong side of €2000 for one.  :o

Long shot I know but would anyone have a clutch pressure plate for a ‘75  421 mog?
It’s a double type for the pto. Luk.

Mog Spotting / Turkish Delight
« on: February 06, 2016, 08:26:03 pm »
I was touring on my little bike through Turkey this Summer and saw this Mog in a small, high up remote village. It looked like a fairly humble place.
It must be an essential lifeline when the Winter snow drops.
I'd love a shed like this for my own one.

Hi Rob.
Nice.
Im a bit too far away for a spin and my mog is a bit too far away from being drivable but that looks the business.
Is it petrol?

Plenty of time fixing that I'd say Mike but worthwhile.
The hatch gives it a bit of an A-team feel. Looks great. It will be good when the plan comes together.
Is that a standard original 404 hard cab? Am thinking of going down that route with what's left of my own cab for better or worse. would be good to have an idea of what to work towards. Though it wont be a match.

That's a lovely looking truck Shaun. Looks like new.
I know there is a 3M product that is used to good effect to polish clear  plastics to. Works with visors/ headlamps etc. Think it's basically 3 different grits of polishing compound.
Though if pledge works already.
I would be delighted to have  just a small patch of rust on the floor!
On the tipper ram on my 404 it is a 12v pump. The truck is 24v but they have used a large lump of metal to connect it to reduce the voltage.

I can't see this mod being an industry standard.

Yup a cab in good nick maks sense alright.
I'll get the wheels rolling first. No doubt it has lots of other things that need time spent on it.
The existing cab must have looked shocking even when first done.

I got my new 404 delivered! Time to tinker is in short supply at the minute. No doubt I'll be in need of much help and advice along the way.
The cab looks to be the worst part. It's a 308 (?) cab spliced onto the old 404 one. A lot of rust.
I plan initially to free up the brakes and get driving as a start then tackle the cab.
Just how I'm not yet sure. I saw Spannermike you just took off an old soft top. Is it something you'd sell on?
I haven't taken good pics yet but hopefully these ones attach ok.
Cheers
