Well all fitted, all plumbed in, and the solenoid wired up to a button on the top of the dash in easy reach of both passenger and driver 😜

Well, it took a bit of time between work days and family stuff, but here 'tis! Unfortunately the garden isn't wide enough to get a shot of the whole thing... but here's the view across the roof now, complete with shiny new air horn. :)
Now all we need to do is finish hooking it up to the air system...
Does anybody know offhand what pressure the auxiliary circuit runs at?

Definitely not planning to become complacent about it! LOL already in the habit of strolling round whenever we stop to check the hub temperatures by hand... can't see that changing. And good point re contamination.

Rob knows the way to his woman's heart is via her Unimog!
For my birthday last week (combined with Christmas), he bought me a 63cm Fiamm air horn with snow guard...

Just imagine THAT a hundred times louder, resounding across the gardens... hahahaha!
Rob coupled it up briefly to the tyre inflation connection on Hans to see what it sounded like - it sounded like the QEII was coming in to dock!
I can't express how happy this present makes me.

Update! It's made it quieter... comparatively speaking, this is a Unimog after all! That seems to be about it, but it's good to know it's done.
We've checked every so often and the hubs have required a wee top-up, especially the driver's side hub. If you have a look at this link, it's a handy and pretty simple fix for what is apparently a recurring problem for the 6-bolt fast axles: oil migration via capillary action, with the hub oil ending up in the axle. It's usually worse on the driver's side, but ours does it a bit on both sides, just to be different.

Drained and refilled the front hubs and front diff today with Hypoid Gear Oil, 75/90. The driver's side front hub had about 100ml left in the hub, passenger side maybe 200ml... now they both have 250ml in as per the operator's handbook. The diff dropped a bit over 2 litres, and was refilled with 2.5 litres. Going to take it out for a drive tomorrow. :)

keep the standard unimog one, and spend your time doing something else.  Aluminium and steel put together isn't a good mix without isolating it from each other to stop corrosion. 

280 lts is around 250kgs as well, so it's going to take more fuel carting it around.

We think that, as with seemingly everything for these fire truck 'Mogs, the fuel tank is a custom size - we were surprised by its size as we were expecting the average size Mog tank, but it's a 90 litre tank and unfortunately the way the filler spout is attached means that it's virtually impossible to actually get 90 litres in it. Barring its temporary use as an aid to our house move, we shouldn't be making enormously long journeys in it - maybe into NL or Germany for various dog events, and dotting hither and thither on rallies etc. So perhaps this is a project for another time... :)
