If I had time I would have driven my 411 to gaganau I like driving my 411 as much as the 406s you just need to keep the speed realistic I've done 100 miles in one day no problem just don't worry about peaple who cannot overtake something doing 30 miles per hour !
There's no problem to turn up on the day and pay, just better to know numbers prior to the event after all this is a non profit thing.
Been going through the doka today needs a bit more work really, but gotta go through the black addition sometime this week, good to go through things though.
All being well I think we will be there around 4 pm gonna be doing about 45 all the way,

This one is for NJC
We are going camping this weekend in a clients forest he has half a dozen venison steaks, I told him that it's no good throwing them on the barbie as there's no fat in it.
I wanted to do the ray mears and bury a haunch in a pit  :D
What's the best way to do the steaks?

The back of a Unimog is better being sat down for stability, you guys concentrate to much on spring flex what you need to keep in mind is flex with your chassis this keeps the centre of gravity as low as possible Unimogs have very good clearance already keeping COG down should be your main goal.
Keep an eye on how you mount things to your chassis always three point mount, never drill holes or weld your chassis especially the front half.
Soft springs are great but you must keep an I on two things one is the angle of the u joint in the torque tube don't let the axle drop to far from the chassis this can be controlled by the shock absorbers as the factory do, but you want max travel and fit longer shocks, so you can fit a shock cord from the diff centre to the centre of chassis. The other is your bump stops keep them don't lose them and ideally the hydraulic ones are best.

No just thought if it still had compressor you could have modified the difflocks to operate separately. And you could blow your tires up after off-roading.

Did you save your air trailer braking system?

I've never done a 404 but if there anything like the 406 there is a wear ring in the axle tube, if there was that much play I'm surprised it holds oil, have you checked your oil levels for water ingress.

Cardine joints in the front axle check for lift and play with a bar you can see it behind the hub, have you greased them ?
I take it you've got rod actuated diff locks on your 404 with the v treads you have fitted and when you have good traction avoid full lock situations with difflocks in not only because of the strain but you can dig yourself in a hole very quickly, it's not so easy to do on a 404 but I modify the diff lock actuator so they can be engaged separately that way the rear can be engaged any time without worry only increasing the turning radius and engaging the front when in trouble !
If you where deep water wading check your fluids !

Bart my 411 has a hydraulic power steering system and it'll be there, you know full hydraulic is illegal on road if it's capable of over 20mph what I would do if I where you is fit electric power steering of something like a corsa or Vw I think it has been done somewhere on the net.

Could you not modify this to fit your road rail bracket ? Would be better on the back for weight and clearance enabling you to keep the din plate.

I'm thinking of buying these BKT 405/70R20 BKT MP513 High-Speed (90km/hr) at £390 +vat they hit all the right buttons and are half the price of xm47s don't get me wrong I'm a massive fan of the old xm's and bibx but those days have gone I believe because Europe has made it a legal requirement that new tyre needed to be quiter! Anyway should have a pair of these on my Doka for the Mog meat.

An indicated fifty on your speedo and the 405 Mitas tyres I would check it against a sat nav but you could have high ratio hubs @ 2800 you should be able to get about 56 mph. If your speedo is showing a low speed and your sat shows your doing 60 + you've got high ratio diffs !!! Does it only rev to 2400 ?
Regarding your mitas check the speed rating it should be g and load rating 136.
