Hi I have a Unimog that my son was going to use off road, but as this has never happened it is now up for sale, I am asking you good people in our club to help me get some Idea of a valuation of this great example, It was registered in 2000 and has had lot's of restoration work done to a very high standard. It is a Simca with a 4180 v8 Petrol Engine in it, (VERY DESIRABLE)The unimog is in very good all round condition and I would really Appreciate some one who knows them inside out to help me with a valuation, I am based in Middlesbrough and the vehicle is stored INSIDE and has been for the last 8+years.
Hi, apologies if this has been asked but I couldnt find it in a thread anywhere - new to the site as well!!
Can anyone recommend breakdown cover companies please? Struggling to get people who a) know what it is and b) wont cover it even when they do. I dont need European cover just UK.

Thanks Moose. I'll give it another go on the weekend. I work during the week and by the time I get home it's dark. I'll take your advice on the gear oil, thanks.

Remember you can only select a gate at a time on your Unimog model you can not go from say 2 to five without going into 3 or 4 same with the others 4 to 5 can be stiff to select when cold it’s a good sign because your going through a splitter and means the gearbox is nice and tight. I should change the gearbox oil whatever you fill it with make sure it’s gl4 but like I said I recommend 75/90 sin. Moose

Thank you moose, yes the prices are quite reasonable i thought. Shipping is huge because of the weight of these things. I have a lot of learning to do. Just gave it a quick once over on the weekend as I had other things to do around the house. I found loose bolts around the front left brake protector plate, wet roof lining. We have had a wet few days and i suspect the water is making its way in from the roof hatch mounting bolts. I've removed the roof lining and the backing board has suffered from water damage. I will keep it and use it as a template to make a new one. The motor starts up really easy but is a bit smokey with a strong diesely kind of smell. I'll start with draining the fuel and changing the fuel filters as there is am old service sticker on the windscreen that says the next service is due in April, 2018! I hope it is just stale fuel. A quick drive down the street had me struggling with the gear change. It seemed to be stuck in the 3-4 shift sector and then I was able to engage the 5-6 and then 7-8? Still the 1-2 evades me. Not sure if the shift mechanism is sticking from lack of use or operator error. It is fitted with a rubber cushioned pintle hook for towing and has air lines running to the rear of the truck for air trailer brakes I would say. A lot of learning to do on this new adventure. Thanks for any advice.
