Introduce Yourself / Re: New unimog 406

Hi Oliver the lever on the side of the gearbox is 540/1000 rpm selector for your pto these speeds relate to an engine speed of around 2000rpm I say around because it depends what gears you have in the box.
6.5 to 7.5 bar for your air system.
The switch has the same plastic knob as some other Unimog models and is still available from a Unimog dealer.
The pickup hitch will have been fitted as they were not fitted from the factory and you want to be careful not to overload the back axle.
Where are you based ? Also let’s see some pictures

Hi Everyone,

Ive just prchased a refurbished 406 Ag spec (1986)

Does anybody know what the manual lever on the side of the gearbox does, at the back of the cab does, near the 4x4 lever?

Also can anybody tell me the correct air presure it should be running at, I cannot get the air cyclinder on the pick up hitch to operate?

Finally the wabco air switch in the cab that swithes between 2x4 4x4 & diff lock just has a plastic cap on it and not the switchable plastic knob as shown in the litrature, does anyone know why this might be or where i can get a replacment knob?

Im gratful for any advice,thanks

Oliver

Hi, my name is Grahame and I don't own a Unimog, however I have a friend who owns a 404 circa 1962, which is a military version. I've offered to help him get it going as it's been sat unused for quite a while. My reason for joining the site is for getting technical help with the Mog and getting it back to a road go able condition. Cheers in advance.

Sadly after many years being unable to obtain a suitable workshop to properly strip my Mog down and re-furbish her, I have decided to pass her on to someone with the time and the space. I have placed her in Clarke and Simpsons Agricultural Vehicle auction at Campsea Ashe in Suffolk, May 25th. Basic details are on the auction rooms website. She was an ex-Swedish Army snowplough. Not in too bad a condition regarding the engine and gearbox. However the previous owner had removed the air side of the air over hydraulic brakes, a little brutally in that he cut a few air pipes. I have refurbished the kit, but not replaced it. The seats were all in shreds, and I have removed them and blasted and painted the frames ready for re-upholstering, which I never got a round to doing. The cab has the usual bit of rot around the bottom edges, but nothing too dreadful. The steps are still useable. The electrics need a good going over as the terminals are a little confused or corroded. It has front linkage and front and back PTO, but no rear linkage. I acquired some MB TRAC rear linkage that I was in the process of converting to fit. I designed a special bracket to take the top arms, and had it laser cut. It requires welding up, plus all the rest of the conversion to be done on the chassis and rear axle. There are some extra wheels with pretty bad tyres on, plus a rust eaten buck off a U1100 that is not with it, but the buyer can have if he wishes. It would need some work to fit. I also have a new workshop manual from Atkinson Voss that I will be selling separately.

Any questions I will try and answer.

Tim
