Technically it's a raised air in take, as although it is water proof, the rest of the engine doesn't have a deep waiding kit on it (not that they're really required for what most people do). The primary use for them was to raise the air intake away from dusty environments (hence, raised air intake). This is also why it's mounted at the front, rather than the back, where the turbulence causes dust to be thrown up. Cost a small fortune now, and can be hard to come by straight ones, look after it
