Stainless steel and alluminium body for Unimog U1500
« on: June 10, 2017, 01:05:39 am »
Hello all,

Just thought I'd share our latest project on the forum.
We were tasked with the design and manufacture of this removable stainless steel and aluminium chip body for this customers unimog.
The rear barn doors can be opened by simply lifting a pin to allow logs to be thrown in to the back, and the side doors use the existing body latches on the front bulkhead, and we have followed these through for the rear latches.
For the panel design we decided to integrate a bit of unimog heritage and formed jerry can pressings similar to those found on early unimog rear body bulkheads (such as the U411 and U600).
The way the chip body integrates into the Unimogs existing bed allows the customer to quickly switch from the chip body to his Palfinger crane, which sits on the unimog rear bed.

All in all we are happy with the results, as is the customer! :)

Cheers, Brian

That looks really smart I particularly like the pressings in the lower part of the tailgate which are similar to the 406 battery box. Are you able to do the pressing your self or do you have to get them done elsewhere?
