My 404 at Hogmoor off road day
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:06:55 am »
I took the 404 to an off road day run by The Four Wheel Drive Club at the weekend.  It was held on Hogmoor Common which is an MoD training area.  Most of these videos are me driving over or through something that they have just had to tow another vehicle out of.

This puddle used to be what was known as Hogmoor Lake.

Here is the same "puddle" about 4 years ago in the Land Cruiser

Looks like you're having a great time. I was surprised at what the Land Cruiser was coping with - at one point I expected to see it floating but it carried on!

Are there any plans to put more aggressive tyres on the 404, or do you drive it on the road a fair bit?

I really liked that old Land Cruiser, it took all kinds of abuse.  In its early years with me I drove it down to Libya and played in the Sahara for a couple of weeks.  Then it got more and more modified into a pay and play site machine.

I have some more aggressive tyres sat in the garage, the problem is they foul the rear mud guards.  I am having trouble finding ready made plastic ones so think I am going to end up getting some metal ones fabricated.

Just an idea and I have no idea whether they will fit yours but I have just bought some super single plastic arches off HGV Direct for £16 (currently on offer) each that I am fitting to my U1000 424. They are close enough to the correct radius for me and all I am doing is trimming the ends.
New challenges every month, but driving one cannot be beaten.

Yes, everything to the right of Hogmoor Road.  You can see what the lake used to look like.  The site the other side of Hogmoor Road is called Slab Common, we get on there occasionally to.  If you go north up Hogmoor Road and turn right onto Oakhanger Road follow that, it becomes station road.  At the junction with the A325 Camp Road turn left, just along there where that is labelled Forge Road  is Broxhead Common on the left - we get on there to.

If you look around the view of Hogmoor you will probably see a tank or two driving round.  We get them up and down the High St to, normally with L plates on.  Frightens the c**p out of you the first few times you see them heading straight at you.

I don't think there are any mines on the training areas but the bomb squad have been called a few times when people have found live shells laying around.
