Nice forum, some great information here. i personally run a 406 with chip box/chipper for my tree surgery business just fitted a new exhaust direct from merc that was surprisingly affordable. :)

Hi Robert. Welcome to the forum.

I see you've made another post here already so I'm off to read that now. It's nice to hear of U900's being used for what they were originally intended. I've just picked one up myself with the intent of fitting a chip box... It's a big advert to drive around! I'll eventually have a chipper for it too but one step at a time. I look forward to seeing your setup.

welome Robert.

nice to hear another u900 hard at work despite its age. They really do run for ever with a bit of TLC. How long have you been running a mog for? if you have any comments or questions about unimogs by all means chip in,the more ideas the better!!

And as NJC didnt say (hang your head NJC :P) if you have time it would be nice to see your mog setup

I've been running the one i have for 2 year and i had one for about 5 year prior to that with a break of about 5 year in-between. when i ran an assortment of vehicles doing tree work. i do like my mog but it does not get used everyday, i have a tow behind a tipper for most jobs.

How come you run two rigs? Distance/comfort of travel or cost perhaps?

I don't really know why I've got one when it comes to work. I have work I can use it for, but I sure don't need it! My thinking was that I wanted one, so I bought one. If I can make it pay for itself, or even nearly cover it's cost of upkeep, I'll be happy with that.

So far all it has done is cost me money! But then that's what these things do and I knew it probably would before I bought it.

Meant to say thanks for the welcome. Yes I got a surprise with merc too, my local dealer had one in stock!! Not the full system the main silencer box and exit pipe £82.00 inc vat. I won't use the exit pipe so I gave that to my mate who is going to make me a return section to go into the stack to get rid of the flexi.  :)

I have a few vehicles as I find it's difficult to get the perfect vehicle for every task, some of my work is a bit of a drive so I take tipper if the chips have to be removed, some the chips to be left off road so I take the hilux. Local or off road site jobs I take the mog. I am thinking of getting a 130 defender tipper this year to do away with my tipper and hilux. But I'm not a fan of landies ohh decisions decisions  :D

Is it a good idea to lose the flexi pipe on the exhaust? I thought it was there so the cab (and attached stack) can move independently of the chassis. Mogs are designed to flex so I'm thinking something attached to the cab and the chassis without the means for some amount of movement will break something? Probably the exhaust?

You've only got to watch one with a large back body driving off road to see how much they do twist. It's pretty incredible.

theres no flexy on a 406 :) the box is only held on by 2 bolts, so that flex's with the chassis :P

landies, the marmite of vehicles  :D

Yes the flexi pipe is only to join the silencer box to the stack, i will have a new section of bent pipe that sits snug under the body into the stack soon.

i think an upright exhaust is a must with mogs and chippers. even wose with a turntable chipper and your feeding in from the exhaust side!!

Can you buy one ready made or is it a case of making your own? Pretty much every one I've seen has been different to the next!

I was thinking just a straight stainless tube with a bend in the end to keep the rain out would do, and attach it with the dreaded flexi pipe! :D
