Hi,

I thought I had better introduce myself.

I bought a 1959 Unimog 404 about 4 years ago, it was a non runner, rusty and was due to be stripped for its axles by the existing owner (a 4x4 competition vehicle builder), It had a very rusty cab, unknown engine state, crusty **** tyres, a home brew fuel tank dumping fuel into the top of the carb. Various animals and birds were calling it home.

I had no reason to purchase it, and no way of explaining to my wife why I had bought it either.

well over the odd weekend, during the course of 4 years I have got this far.....

It runs on a GOTpropane LPG kit (runs perfectly)

I'm adding a set of doors to make it easier to take passengers on pay and play days, a set of roll hoops to attach seat belts to, and form some sort of basic weather top, a scaffold board rear bed, with wooden rail sides in a 40's truck inspired way. I plan to have it as a weekend off-road toy, it will see some use logging and pulling trees at my brothers farm.

I just got it road ready (not finished) and drove it round the local roads over the last few weekends, getting used to driving it, and seeing what other things needed doing. unfortunately the radiator I made temporary repairs to decided to pop under the higher pressure, I didn't mind as I had a new replacement on the shelf, but it happened to be the wrong type, and doesn't fit, so its back off the road, with its radiator out, and me trying to find a good value replacement.

I would like to find out about its military history, but don't know where it came from, if anyone has a way of finding that out I would be really interested - being a '59 model It has seen its share of action, It would be nice to put it in the build manual I am planning.

Looks like a nice tidy resto and conversion you've done Finding Information about it's history or specs is a bit difficult for a mog of this year, as merc don't keep info like that after a certain time.
