Hi from another Gloucestershire Unimog junkie !!
« on: December 21, 2013, 06:16:08 pm »
Good evening everyone.

My name is Tony and as the title I am from Gloucestershire.
I stumbled across this forum totally by chance and was so glad to see a uk based forum at last that I had to sign straight up even though I don't us forums much.
I purchased  my present  U1000 nearly 2 years ago after knowing and using it for the last 10 years or so.
After owning it for a couple of months i had the nasty experience of a long curved  piece of metal that i drove over sprung up and came straight through the windscreen, luckily it came through on the passenger side!
After removing the smashed screen and the rubber it became apparent how little metal was left around the screen!!! This little episode started the unplanned cab rebuild that has involved cutting out loads of expanding foam and filler where there should be metal, I hope to finish all the welding over Christmas and then get on with the painting before the summer.
My first mog was an Ex Welsh water U900 406 that I brought (and fell out with!) from Richard bond from Tewksbury, I had the u900 for tree surgery work for about 5 years until an injury put me out of tree work.
I thought I would try an MB trac a few years ago and brought a 900 from a tree surgeon locally, I used this for a bit of forestry winching and dump trailer work until it was sold to a local fencing contractor to finance the U1000.
I grew up working with my dad in forestry work and then left school and qualified as a mechanic. When I got bored of mechanics I retrained in electrical engineering which is what I now do specialising in agricultural installations.
Hi to Neil, we live very close and have exchanged messages on a shooting forum but not got around to meeting!

Hello tony!

Welcome to the club :) sounds like a serious job on the 1000, we have some welding to catch up on with the 406145 and the 411 next summer, any questions just ask  :P

Shame about the 406, as in my opinion it one of the best engineered models ever made.

As you'll see if you look around the forum a Bit, we like a bit of banter on here, and it usually stems from Unimog related topics!

Cheers, Brian

Hi Tony, and welcome to the forum. I think you'll like it here. It's a small place at the moment but very friendly.

What a small world. So we share two interests instead of one and they turn out to be shooting and Unimogs... You wouldn't have seen that coming! Shooters aren't that common, but I'd guess that Unimog owners are far thinner on the ground? Now I'm not sure if you want to give away too much info on an open forum, but I'm thinking your mog must be either orange or light green? If not I've never seen you around in the area - and I don't miss these things very often!

As far as the never getting around to meeting goes - well that's something we really should put right at some point. It sounds like we would have a fair bit to talk about. That and being useful contacts for help with our vehicles if the need ever arises.

Anyway, it's good to see you here. Have a good read and let us know if we can be of any help.

Hi Neil

She is the light green one that you have seen around Stroud or possibly on the motorway embankments between here and Birmingham.
Get xmas out of the way and we will get together.

Been trying to post pictures but says upload file full?

Cheers

Tony

Yeah, you've been spotted! For a moment I was worried I'd missed it. It's a tidy looking truck - has it got a rear body to go with that tipper ram? At least I think it's a tipper ram sticking up in the photo?

I'm not sure about the image uploading. Maybe Brian can shed some light on that?

Is the Rose and Crown open for business at the moment?

Hello Tony from a fellow U1000 owner, and relatively local too as I'm on the Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire border so can't be that far away. It would be interesting to meet someone who also has a U1000 so I can see what's wrong with mine.
New challenges every month, but driving one cannot be beaten.

We're starting to build quite a good selection of members down here aren't we. It's nice to see.

Have you seen the post about the midlands meet Tony? We're having a mog get together not too far away from here next year.
