New to the forum
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:39:20 pm »
Hi guys,

I was just having a look at the latest Unimog videos on youtube and somehow managed to follow a link to this site. Spotting something with the words Unimog and UK in the same decription... Well I was here like a shot! I see the forum is quite new (it must be for me to have not spotted it before) but I'm sure it will grow - there just isn't anything else like this in Britain that I know of.

A little about myself. Well My name is Neil. I'm a landscape gardener from Gloucestershire who also enjoys shooting, a bit of off roading now and again and more than anything, big boys toys! I don't have a Mog yet but plan to at some point. Hopefully a nice ag spec U900 if possible. For now I've got a Ford Ranger which would stay even with the arrival of a Mog - well they're not exactly every day drives are they?!

I first noticed Unimogs existed when I was a child. We have a local fuel distributor (Hobbs bros) who have been running one for some years now and I always wondered what it was. Then I found out about the internet which quickly led to me finding out about the trucks. A couple of years ago I trecked three hours from home on the wettest weekend of the year to sleep under a tarp in the bed of my Defender pickup so I could spend two days at a charity off road event. You've guessed it, there was a Unimog (well actually three) there. It was well worth it and great fun.

I still have the contact details of a couple of the guys so will pass on the forum details to them, I'm sure they'd be very interested in joining.

Anyway, that's enough rambling on by me. I'm off to have a read and if you hadn't already noticed... I think the forum is great!

Hi Neil, welcome to the club  :)

Nice to know the youtube videos are working    ;D
Youre right, the forum is new, My dad (moose) does the training for the unimogs for merc as a bit of a sideline, and most people always ask him if theirs a club in the uk, to which hes always had to say no, so then people would say there should be. so after years of people asking i decided to make one, and here it is  :D theres still a few niggles here and there to sort, but im pretty chuffed.

We're also in to shooting, my dad has firearms and shot gun certificate, i aim to get my shot gun soon.
If your into off roading, (which i think most people are who have Mogs  :P ) check out the Breslau rally on youtube, were looking to make a trialer from a mog for it, you basically get from a to b as quick as you can!  ;D
Good choice for the u900, small, compact, and a good chasis for off roading, if you want to use it for off roading go for the 416 not 406, better with a longer chasis due to the unimogs heavy nose weight.
Haha, my dad used to drive his doka cab u900 everywhere, but it does have high ratio hubs so its not to bad for speed, untill we put all the weight on it    :-\  :P and there not very nice for long journeys, although last year we went down to gaganau for the 60 years celebration in our u900 406 120, canvas top was banging all the way down   :P
So far i havent had the pleasure of sleeping under a tarp, but it will come, everybody has to have that pleasure!  :D where was the off road event you went to?

Thanks for passing on the details, word of mouth is the main method for getting the club on track right now, plus youtube  :)

When you look to buy a unimog, post what you want in the wanted section on here, somebody might have what youre after  :) and feel free to post any questions you have.

Thanks for joining the forum, and thinking its great  :)

Cheers, Brian
