Sounds like the hitch's are the same or very similar, mines got the air release as well, but some one I know has the same basic hitch but no air release, and mounted slightly differently to mine, but that looks as if its been done at a different time to when the hitch was new.

Tony,
The is, or should be a pin running horizontal on the clevis part, remove that pin, then release and lower the hook as normal, about 1/2 way, the clevis will lower down as well, pull the clevis drawbar outwards, and the will be 2 holes in, line up with the hole in the carrier to which ever one you need for the length of drawbar you want, then drop the same pin you removed from horizontal in the hole vertically.
Putting the lynch pin, or R clip on you need to lift the draw bar up by hand, leaving the hook down, and reach between to fit the clip.
The clevis is locked and ready to be used now, and can be lowered to ground level if needed to hitch some thing up, then raised as normal until it locks up, the same as the hook.
Has yours got an air release on the hitch?

Tony, yes it sounds the same hitch, in normal use the clevis would be extended out, so a clip wouldn't  be a problem, but I know what you mean when its closed in.
What part are you missing?

Hi John, welcome, an other U1000 owner here.
Some external panels are available, I`ve not seen internal panels for sale, but not to hard to fabricate replacements your self.
A couple of the well know uk dealers or ebay.de a good place to start looking.
Hi John, Welcome aboard
I have also got a U1000 that came from Modie-Bond (RIP :-[)
I live Nr Stroud also so not a million miles away! Which part of Wiltshire are you in?
Its good to see more land Rover owners especially ones with a lamping light on it (Note to Villager, we need a shooting area of the forum :))
I hope your cab has less rust than mine did, it was a few weeks of cutting and welding to get it solid.
Does your Mog have a pick up hitch, If so may I have a picture of it as I am missing a piece and want to copy one?
Being in Wiltshire means you are close to Ken Day, If you need any help he is one of the best Unimog guys I know.

Tony
What type of hitch do you need a picture of? I`ve got a ARM(I think), type, a PUH hook, and clevis above, similar to the type fitted to deutz tractors of a similar age.

Hi Steve, a mate of mine had a doka with the same transmission set up, it was quite good in snow as the drive was smooth coming in. From memory you just selected your gear as normal using the clutch, let the clutch out, the mog would still be stationary and then bring the revs in and away you when smoothly.

Was it as moose mentioned in the other thread, a torque converter transmission?
Looks a nice truck you have there, I like the look of the 417`s myself.

I`ve never heard anyone have a bad word for Ken Day, glad the job is moving in the right direction again.

I guess you`ve all ready seen it, there is a round cab mog with a small crane on ebay at the minute.

11
Hi and welcome,
that's a fair crane you would like, something in the region of a 66tm with a dead weight of about 6 ton before sub-frame,  might be a bit much for a U900 :D
The biggest problem I can foresee with a large crane on a unimog is the spread you would need on the legs due to a the base vehicle being relatively light, to achieve the stability required for the loler test, possible with double extension legs in each corner.
Its always the way, you see some thing that suits you for sale, and its the other end of the country.

I think I seem that one heading into Stroud a little while ago, or one very similar, a bit of an unusual colour.
Are the cabs fiberglass on the new shape ones? The one on the telly had seemed to burn away to nothing.

The has been a change in the rules with in the last 6/12 months regarding the MOT, in that vehicles registed before 1960?( don't have the full info to hand), are MOT exempt, need less to say though it's still got to be road worthy, as with any vehicle using the road.
To be MOT exempt using recovery as it's use, the vehicle can't carry a load only tools, and equipment for recovery use, and usually have a jib or under lift, to tow the broken down vehicle.
Most people know one, a bloke down the pub with a transit beavertail, with recovery stickers on, and saying he's mot exempt, OK til some thing goes wrong!

Regarding the extra pipes on the fuel tank, as moose said, the cab is a cut down crew cab, all the crew cabs I`ve seen have had a extra heater/block heater running off a night heater type set up under the rear bench seat, my guess would be thats what the extra pipes where for.

Ref the body, 6`6" wide is about right, length wise its up to you for your use, or what looks right, if making your own body try to mount it using a 3 point mounting to allow chassis flex, or get hold of a x frame and build off that.
