General Banter! / Bought a new set of tyres !!!
« on: November 19, 2016, 05:43:00 pm »
Hi Guys,

After a rather busy time (3 family deaths and a new job!) I am now able to do a little more on my Unimogs so first up was to smash the piggy bank and buy a new set of tyres!

Had a ring around and checked a few web sites and nobody seamed to beat Barry Shaddock tyres in Gloucester at £390 +vat for 365/85-20 Conti MPT81 each for a set of 4.

Result:Bank balance 2 grand lighter but mog drives alot nicer :)

Be very careful with how much you fill the dump trailer, I overdid it a little with a 16T drum trailer full behind my 900. Tipped it, the muck stuck right at the back and next thing I knew was that I head butted the windscreen!!! :-[
The weight was all behind the rear axle and it picked the 900 back end up about 4 foot, had to select diff lock and drive forwards and it came down really quick.
Will try and find the picture(i think I posted it before?)

Is the wading kit the one that pressurises the transmission, axles etc?
If so how is that actuated as there is an airlock from the carden shaft door when the diffs are locked that I assumed to be failed locker seals (my U1000 has that job to do :-\).
And yes I did think that was a big knob on the end of my dipstick :o
Very little welding to do (just the windscreen surround) which i very welcome after the epic U1000 cab rebuild!
Is there any way to tell age from a Mercedes chassis number?

Chassis No is 435 115 10 001871 if anyone knows the age?
What does the wading kit consist of?
I have a Palfinger PK5000 crane kicking about that may get thrown on th back😀
I plan to do a bit of work on it and then drive it back sometime in the next few months.

Even though I haven't finished the U1000 i have gone and bought another Mog!
Origenally i planned to brake it for bits but it is too good and so it is coming home so that I have something to do when I finish the U1000!

I also have the cable operated brake valve, you can convert to later bulkhead mounted valve or cross reference them on the manufacturers website (Wabco I think) for spares/ replacements.

I have taken 5 Continental military 12.5x20s off rims yesterday, good tread but cracks between the bars. Not bad but I have to drive the truck 100 miles home 100 miles and didn't trust them.
Will swap for beer😜

If Gloucestershire is any good my field is mowed and ready for a mog invasion!

Try the places that have lorries built for scrap collection and tree surgery parked up beside caravans.  :'(
I would guess it was stolen for the crane to go on another truck rather than the mog which has a very limited market.

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the forum.
Were you one of the guys involved with Bam-bam at Breslow a couple of years ago?

I am all excited about trying to extend my drawbar but will have to wait as I have got the double drum winch on the linkage at the minute and it is a bugger to get on and off.
I have an air ram on the PUH release operated by a push button located in the gear selector panel.
