Why not just belt drive? Would be easier I should think and pulleys are really cheap.

I don't think it would even need to be a steel plate arrangement? Just a wooden frame that bolts onto the three point would handle the torque needed to run a spit. You could probably make it with 4x2 and a sheet of ply?

Fair enough. In that case make it with very thin plate so you could cut it out with a jigsaw.

Old Unimog beds were wooden? Just run it off of the 411 so it doesn't look out of place? :D

not all the old ones were, mainly 401's and u25's 411 were mostly steel ;)

and thin plate? whats that?  :D over engineering is the key! just like Unimogs  :P

The half inch steel plate they use to cover holes in the road so you can drive over them. You can find loads of it quite cheap in our local scrappy. He's one of the few that will sell to the public at the price he gets for it when he weighs it in - top bloke!
