Mog Insurance

You may all have your insurance needs perfectly worked out already, but just in case this might be useful to anybody struggling to insure their Unimog - we just spent several days having fruitless and frustrating conversations with lots of different insurance firms and brokers regarding getting insurance for our 1981 U1300L 37.
Excuses ranged from "doesn't meet our minimum entry requirements" - whatever that might mean! - to "we only insure commercially, and by the way, do you have an operator's license?" (answer: no, I don't need one)... not forgetting the classic "What's a Unimog?" or our personal fave, uttered in tones of compete bewilderment: "you want to insure a 7.5 tonne truck... for personal, social and domestic use...?" (but of course!)
One company refused to insure us unless we used the truck at least partially for commercial purposes... the next one refused to insure us if we DID use it for commercial purposes!
And then, finally, there was Footman James. After consultation with her manager, the call handler came back to confirm that yes, we could be insured by them, and yes, they HAD heard of Unimogs, right on down the line to a very nice price tag of less than £300 per year Comprehensive cover, which includes legal protection and Agreed Value. It's a Vintage Commercial Vehicle policy. We are very happy to have found it. :)

Not sure about Unimogs, but adrian flux gave a similar figure to my Dad for his 13 tonne mercedes camper :) the more of these insurance companies that get mentioned the better!

Have used both these companies for insurance for the Land Rovers, very competitive.
