That's interesting. Having never really spent much time looking at a U900 in the flesh I didn't realise that.

So what parts do you need to change? Screen, door tops, roof... Anything else? Sorry for the basic questions - I'm beginning to think that it may be easier than I thought to turn any U900 into what I want it to be?

 as you say, screen, door tops, roof. also the seats are higher up. no lower lights either. converting them to standard can be expensive, but if you take your time and get the parts slowly you can eventually get the bits cheap. the most expensive things are the screen frame and door tops, as they tend to rot away, you would struggle to make them as well as they have some very intricate folds. also the steering column is different to cope with the raised seats, but i dont know if that would matter if you put it back to standard  ??? and the windscreen glass is special stuff as its very flexible, but again, i dont know if you can change it...

So it would really be best to get what I'm after straight off if the parts can be hard to find. What I really want is the round steel roof but a close second is the black one you have - that's pretty nice too.

I was talking to an estate manager friend of mine and it turns out another local estate is looking for a woodland contractor to work a couple of months a year on his ground. If I can talk about it and secure a contract I could justify getting one sooner. I'll have to do a bit of homework on the numbers but I think I can make it work. I hope I can.

yeah, or you could have the cab casto has, they dont actually look too bad once theyre done up good and proper  :) canvas tops tend to go for more as theyre very popular in germany.

sounds good about the contract, do some shopping first though, and remember, just because they look pretty doesnt mean they are  ;) anybody can give something a spray job...

I was thinking when I do buy one I'll try to take someone along who knows the trucks. If it's UK based then there's a fella down here that does mobile services and repairs. I'm sure if I pay his hours he wouldn't mind looking over one for me.

If I find one at your end of the country.... What's your dads hourly rate?! ;)

dad say when you find one tell us, it depends on how far away it is.

The main things are:

the year doesnt matter, check the hours, this can be viewed under the bonnet, in front of the fuel pump.
the body work, make sure the cab is in good condition.
chassis not ****

Everything else can be repaired or replaced.

about time you admitted you liked it bri!!  :P ;D

just a couple of things that i didnt realise when i bought my mog, which i dont know if ur aware..

1. cascade gear box in the mog to get 1000rpm on the pto as a lot of chippers run a 1000rpm rathr than 540rpm (if it has a 1000rpm there is usually a leaver to put it back to 540rpm)
2. the pto doesnt come out in the same place as a tractor. it comes out of the chassis so would need a bannana box (there are a few kicking round at the dealers) this drops the high of the pto through cogs and centralises it.
3. if it has a spider/x-frame. this is the frame that gives the 3-way tip.
4. if it has trailer air lines to the rear

my mog came with a cascade box in it but the rest has been/will be added. she didnt even have linkage on when i got her lol.

 oh and dont worry. i started out with no idea when i bought mine. i was driving someone else's mog at work but knew i wanted one. even if you think its a stupid question Ask  :)

i know a couple of cracking lads who have helped me no-end in the search for parts  :) ::)

dont forget that the 540/1000 rpm lever is under the cab, not in it  :)

Quick hitch? do you mean the ones where theyre like hooks and you put the balls on the pins first, then lift the linkage onto the balls?

sorry mate forgot to reply to this question.
no its a triangle that fits to the linkage holding it together. it has an oposite on the implement if i'm not mistaken. the linkage triangle clips/locks/pins  :) to the implement bit. its like a male to female coupling thing lol. i need to look into it.......

 I haven't actually figured out what a cascade box is yet! And I thought that the PTO speed is governed by whether the Mog has a 2 speed or single speed 540 pto box?

I didn't realise that chippers often run 1000rpm, so thanks for that! Sounds like I'll need the 2 speed box at the very least then.

Back to the beginning, how does a cascade box work?

Cascade boxes are awesome, we sometimes say we dont know how people live with out them. its basically a load more gears, cascade u900's have 24 gears, or in theory 20 gears as 4 of them are repeated. in super cascade you can go so slow that you struggle to see the wheels moving! this is for field work, (and we sometimes use it to help put implements on, but you probably shouldnt!).
