Unimog UX100

 This should throw a spanner in the works...

Do any of you chaps know anything about this model of truck? It looks more road biased than the usual mogs and also seems to appear under the branding "Multicar"

It looks smart, kind of! Not sure it would work too well in a foot of mud but hey, it'll run a chipper and looks like a great little work truck!

A very interesting subject.

brought out in 96, it wasnt really a great hit for unimog, who were at the time more forestry, agriculture, and utility companies. hence it was sold in the end. it was a great little truck for what it was designed though :)

I was impressed by it's load carrying ability for it's size. Looking at the cost of them though I can see why people would want a proper Unimog. I'f you're going to spend all that money you may as well have something with off road ability too. I can't really see what it can do that a standard Mog can't, although with a lot of road use I'd imagine the tyres will be a fair bit cheaper?!  :D

it was its compact size and manouverabilty that was best, and yes, i would asume the tyres would be reasonably priced :)

 Yeah I thought about it at one point but don't think the pay load was as big compared to a mog and didn't think it would do much when it got rough lol. what size Chipper could it run?

Lol i've been on YouTube today 2 look at them working. The modern ones look rather dam good :) I can see them being good for an estate type place but not sure about being on the roads. Would like to see one close upthough :)

I'd have thought they'd run a similar size chipper to a U900? The engine is pushing a similar output I think?

I was thinking it could be a good compromise if the price was right but it turns out they cost the same as a good to mint U900 - that's that idea out the window! I have seen something else that looks good but I'll start a new topic on that.

Yeah, I'd hazard a guess at something like a 6" chipper, which is all you'd need really as anything else would do for logs

I log everything over 3" for use at home. I don't give much away unless I'm in a hurry to get a lot of stuff cleared. Any wood is good wood when you burn as much as we do. The small logs don't need splitting either and I'm a lazy sod!

I'm sure when I've got a piece of kit large enough to run a decent splitter I may change but for now I've got a 12.5hp kubota and the hydraulic flow rate isn't up to it. It's a sad day when the axe has to come out!

well as we supply biomass boilers, we have a biomass boiler, so anything below 6" really is turned to chips and burnt in the boiler, anything above is logged :)

I was going to fit one of those until I realised our gas bill is about £200 per year and the electric is £800... Think we need solar panels first!

Do you run a special chipper to cut to spec or will your boiler run on quite coarse chip?

yeah, we plan to fit photo voltaic some time in the future, but weve been told that the efficiency isnt that good this far up north,but we like the idea anyway so we probably will do  :)

Depends on the timber for me. Soft wood like conny, poplar go into the Chipper, if it fits it goes. Anything else up to 4inch and log the rest :). I split with a screw splitter on a big massy :)
