« on: September 18, 2016, 09:06:47 pm »
Hi guys ,
New to the website just brought back a 411 from French Swiss border.
And the guy didn't speak a word of English so having trouble starting up and can't seem to get the glow plugs to work.
I have had  a few 404s so not had this problem. Lol

Any chance somebody could give me some help with it

Cheers Dan

Hello Dan welcome to the club very nice find you have there.if it's all standard you put the key in don't turn it that should bring some light on your dash there should be a pepper pot to the left and a pull knob to the left of the ignition pull this out until you can feel resistance and after 20 second the pepper pot should glow red, these engines rely heavily on the glow plugs so depending on tempature any where from 20 to 60 secs then pull said knob to crank engine over.
If it's very cold or the is something wrong with the pump stop push this in as cranking this will increase fuel you don't need to touch the throttle.

Hi,
Just on the off chance what does this sound like on trying to engage 5/6 hear the gear lever is touching the
Passenger seat and is very tricky and the gear lever is like a spoon in water all over the place. Does this
Sound like the shaft below the lever is worn ?????

Hi moose,

Took the round boot off the bolt was on tight. So my thoughts are the shaft is worn
So top off the gear box.

Hi Dan,

Before you go to far into your gear box, where the lever connects onto the part that the rubber boot covers, strip the lever off here, there are some O rings on it, depending on how much wear there is these O rings can be the cause of your problem :)

Cheers, Brian
