Hi folks, not much progress on the cab rebuild, got a bit side tracked with fitting a different engine!

Quite pleased with the fit so far, both manifolds and turbo on the right side so I still have leg room on the drivers side footwell. Sump has it's lowest part at the front so clears the axle easily too! Just need to make the front engine mount next.

Mike......... you cant show us that and not say what the engine is!! I ended up going a similar way with RHS manifolds on the Iveco 2.5 tdi and it is far more pleasant not having the exhaust manifold roasting the side of your leg!
I have a further mod to make after last weekend though............ doing some extreme brush cutting in the unseasonable heat with a trailed mower on steep banks....... I boiled the power steering fluid!! So a cooler is now being devised!

Ha ha  :D.  It's a Mitsubishi 4m40 lump! 2.8 tdi. Most commonly found under the bonnet of a Shogun. However my engine came from a Delica ( the 4wd people carrier thing). my brother was breaking one some months ago and I just happen to glance at the engine and thought hmmm that could work in a mog!

I was looking at the engine thinking "that looks very Merc like!" so the fact that it's Mitsubishi might count cos Merc have shares in Mitsubishi :) Looks like it fits well :)  ;D

So Mike - looks like you totally fabricated an adaptor between Mits bell housing and Mog box? That's a fair achievement! how did you get that all square and centred? Is yours a single front engine mount? I put an A frame on the cross tube and "hung" the front from that. Been in about 8 years and seems to flex with the Mog OK!

 :D

Turnip, in brief, its a mitzy bellhousing bolted to a steel plate, a steel plate made to fit the mog box and then a large tube joins the two plates. Luckily I had a spare gearbox to work with. I had the tube cut the correct length and dead square, set the gearbox up on its end and assembled it. After lots and lots of checking with a dti gauge I tack welded it togeather and then trial fitted to the engine. Then welded it up with a 300A mig!
The input shaft is standard and goes straight into the bearing on the back of the engine.
It took many evenings of work as you can imagine from your Iveco conversion, but it pays to take a bit of time and get it right.
Engine is mounted by two lengths of angle iron bolted to either side of the block extending forward to one cross bar then bolted to the standard mog pivoting arrangement. so chassis can still flex.
Ill get some more pics uploaded soon......

and a shot with it dropped back on the chassis. Really pleased with the fit over the new engine, no cutting at all on the passenger side, did have to chop a bit off on the drivers side to clear the injector pump, still a lot of to do yet, but getting there  8)

Yes its starting to take shape nicely, when dismantling it to that extent i bet its hard to remember what went where, have you been doing the work outside, dodging the weather, or have you got it inside.

It's not too hard remembering where all the bits go- I've got a good memory! The tricky bit finding the time to work on it, day job gets in the way  :(
Most of the cab rebuilding was done in the garage, but with it back on the chassis now, it's way to high to fit in my single garage, luckily the weather is kind ..... at the moment.
