i've tried writting this 3 times now but the internet keeps crashing  >:( :D

most big chippers are 1000rpm, i have a 540rpm chines thing which is a bit s**t lol. you could run 1000rpm chipper on 540rpm but its more stress and wear on the chipper plus the chute blocks up easier.

also if like me you get dragged into farm work, having 540 means you can run all the farm implements.

it is nice having cascade, especially now i know how to use the splitter gear  ;D

i did ad this last time i wrote it out but forgot to add it to the last comment  :P

pto still works the same as a tractor. ie revs govern the rpm.

think you need the cascade box to give you a true 1000rpm?!

i thought it was geared in the gear box to give the 1000rpm? or is it geared in the pto box its self?? its been a while since i fitted the 1000 box to kassy lol

 I always thought that the 2 speed pto box was a completely seperate thing to the main gearbox. I could be wrong though, it's certainly not unusual!

Why do you need the pto shaft to be central? I thought the two uj's on each end of the shaft flexed to allow for an offset? They certainly do when you raise and lower the linkage anyway, so I can't see the other angle being any different?  :-\

 Ah, hang on. I've found a site that says you get 540rmp or 540/1000 with cascade box. I wonder if the two speed pto that you switch from outside is a different item and the cascade allows you to use the single speed pto for both speeds?

 the ujs do allow for flex, but there is a limit to that flex, and youre always better of having the shaft as straight as possible.

as far as im aware the cascade makes no difference to the speed of the pto no matter what gear its in.

The pto is about 6inch off center and 6 inch higher. As Brian said u can still run kit off the pto where it is (I have with a topper but didn't look right) but better with the box on. U will wear out uj's fast and I'm sure u don't wanna see a pto flailing round when it breaks lol  :o

 not nice to watch you mog getting ripped apart by a flailing pto shaft :/ , its ok if you run at a constantly high hight, but when your running low down i would always recommend a banana box.

 I never thought about a shaft failing. Don't suppose that's a pretty sight if it goes off at 90 degrees and hooks up on the linkage.... Actually, that sounds pretty terrible - I wonder which part would fail (hopefully not the gearbox)?!

ive never actually seen one go, just heard some pretty horrible stories. it happens on 4x4s as well, rips the floors out  :-\ i dont know what it would break really, i think it would just keep spinning and smash the living day lights out of the back of your mog until you stopped it  :-[

 i've not seen a tractor blow a UJ but seen what a defender prop does, and its not pritty. to be fair the only real thing i could see it breaking is the shaft its self, maybe damage the implement and mog body work. the linkage is pritty chunky steel
