Bought as a very ugly beast fitted .Now i wonder how would a 2.8 kubota 6 pot  or 2.8 nissan 6 pot fit in my 404?

well at least your honest  unlike casto, who still demands that his cab isnt ugly

Regarding the engine you can make anything fit just depends on the effort required personally if youre after improving fuel economy id go with an OM616, i think they actually fitted the 615 to 404's from the factory, but theyre rare. the 616 is a nice engine, not the most powerfull but they rev well, so youd probably maintain a similar top speed
