Reerection of an Unimog 411.119 from 1974

Hi,
for those who are interested in overhauling Unimogs, I am re-erecting an Unimog 411.119, long wheel base from 1974. Only 83 vehicles were subsequently manufactured before the Unimog 411 was phased out.
The Unimog was a firefighter in Fafe Portugal in its former life. I bought the Unimog in 2010 and I am now close to be back on the road.
The Unimog was dismantled till to the last bolt.
If you want to see more details, visit (sorry in German language only):

Best regards,
Markus

Hi,
there are no high speed axles available for Unimog 411. The older axles (401 to 411a) are known as being faster than the new style. The last Unimog 411c had 36PS at a higher revolution. That is why the engineers changed the gear ration to keep top speed at 53km/h. In the strict sense the axles of the last 411c are "slower" than 411b from 1963 and 411c from 1965. But there was never an option of speed axles in the price list of 411.
As this 411 has a Spanish OM636 (joint venture between Volkswagen and Mercedes) from MEVOSA the power is 43HP (45PS). The injection advance makes the engine more like the passenger car Mercedes 180D.
Yes, it is a long wheel base 411.119 from 1974, only 83 sucessors before the product was phased out. The color is RAL 7021, used in the 1970s from the Germean Deutsche Bundesbahn for their trucks and Unimogs. Its called black-grey.
Regards,
Markus
P.S.: THis Unimog will be shown on the great Unimog meeting end of July close to Bremen. It is the U-V-C anual Unimog show, more than 300 Unimogs are expected. (

Interesting the reason I ask about ratio is I thought the ratios from u600421 could be used in the three piece axle on 411, are they the original wheels for this Unimog ? I like this colour very rare.

Hi Moose,
The naming 421 is to unspecific.
The axles of the 421 with 45PS are almost identical with 411 new axle style. The 421 with 52PS is different, i.e. bigger brake drums, not 350mm etc. The gear ratio of the new style axles 411 show up with different ratios. The last 522 manufactured 411 have the same axles as 421, like the swivel beraings in the front axle etc.
Never change axles without checking the same axle ratio for front and back axle, otherwise four-wheel drive will cause problems, Unimog 411 have no differential between front and back axle!

Hi Markus
Understand this just wondering if it were possible to fit 421 ratio to 411 obviously limited to power of OM636 😀
Moose
Ps today we drive to Breslau rally in Poland no 411 Unimogs there 😀😀

If you change to faster, the torque is lower, because the power of the OM636 stay unchanged. Means the Unimog is faster, but if you climb up-hill it will be slower. Changing the 18" rims to 20" changes the overall ratio as well. Different diameter of the wheels.
Markus
The 411 is not powerful for Breslau. Enjoy your trip.

Dear Unimog fans,
the project is finished. The Unimog is back on the street. I did all official technic checks without any problem. I will show the Unimog end of July at the UVC Unimog show and meeting in Morsum, close to Bremen.
Tim we will meet there, don't look for my older Unimog it maybe will not be there.
Best regards,
Markus

Thank you Neil. It was a long journey, more than 2000hrs. But is has again the condition when it left the factory in 1974. Maybe a little bit better.
I did some improvements, like a dry air filter, a state of the art oil filter cartige, and fast glow plugs. Now the Unimog 411 can breath better, the new motor oil technology (old style motor oil is no longer available) can be efficient and filtered by a modern mico-filter. Starting the engine is a 10 seconds job with the 11.7V parallel glow plugs. The glow system is no longer down if one glow plug is broken (like the old serial glow plug connection).
And the 43HP give the Unimog a boost, so that it runs more than 70km/h (not going up-hill). The 53km/h are history.
Regards,
Markus
