Hi All

John from Wiltshire here,

I have a 1979 U1000 amongst other toys... Wanted a Mog since I was about 14.

joining here has already pointed me in the direction of cab repair panels...which I will be needing very soon!

Hi John, and welcome to the forum. That's a nice looking mog you've got there. They look great in yellow!

What do you do with it? Looks more work than play from the picture - livestock transport?

I'm only just down the road in Stroud, Gloucestershire. It's good to see another local member :)

My Partner and I keep a few highland cattle.

We can borrow the trailer from the farm next door when we want to move them.

The Mog does earn its keep sometimes, post knocker on the back (see attached) but generally it gets used around our smallholding.

It is a real luxury, but would be the last "toy" to leave if needs must.

Needs a bit of love and care at them moment but that will have to wait till we have finished building our new house.

Hello from a fellow U1000 owner. It is nice to see one working. I am up in Worcestershire/ Herefordshire so not a million miles away and have some interesting experiences with mine so far. Some of which are documented on here, but with these experiences have started to come the fabrication of some tools to ease jobs through. Happy Mog Life  :)

I live Nr Stroud also so not a million miles away! Which part of Wiltshire are you in?
Its good to see more land Rover owners especially ones with a lamping light on it (Note to Villager, we need a shooting area of the forum :))
I hope your cab has less rust than mine did, it was a few weeks of cutting and welding to get it solid.
Does your Mog have a pick up hitch, If so may I have a picture of it as I am missing a piece and want to copy one?
Being in Wiltshire means you are close to Ken Day, If you need any help he is one of the best Unimog guys I know.

Hi John, welcome, an other U1000 owner here.
Some external panels are available, I`ve not seen internal panels for sale, but not to hard to fabricate replacements your self.
A couple of the well know uk dealers or ebay.de a good place to start looking.

What type of hitch do you need a picture of? I`ve got a ARM(I think), type, a PUH hook, and clevis above, similar to the type fitted to deutz tractors of a similar age.

my puh has a pick up hook that the top of the hook comes up to the bottom of the clevis hole so you cant put a pin right through and secure it with a r clip or similar so I guesses that there must be some sort of retainer for the draw bar pin on top of the clevis to stop it lifting out. If it sounds like yours it would be good to see a picture of it.

Hi Craig / Tony

Tony's description of the pick up hitch sounds similar to mine. The hook meets the bottom plate of the pin hitch. If I remove a horizontal pin, this allows the pin drawbar to pull out / extend. It also then drops when you lower the pick-up hitch.  It always looks to me that someone has adapted it from something else.

I will take some pictures on Friday when I get home. I am in Amersham at the moment.

Home is Wylye, where the A303 and A36 cross. My U1000 also came from Mudie Bond before they stopped selling them. Was great driving it home...

Tony, yes it sounds the same hitch, in normal use the clevis would be extended out, so a clip wouldn't  be a problem, but I know what you mean when its closed in.
What part are you missing?

Just found this picture of a log splitter I built for a friend...
Tested it on the Mog.

You can just see the pick up hitch... Will take some more pictures on Friday.

That's not a bad little lawn you've got growing on your PUH, do you water it in summer? :D

And I didn't notice the lamp on top of the landy... A mate of mine has a series one with a folding windscreen, which is one of the best shooting platforms I've ever seen!

Used to go lamping regular in the 411, :) its good cos you just put the rabbits in the back, used to have dad driving and shooting, passenger lamping in the seat, then me and sometimes a mate as runners sat in the back :)

Haha! I need to hurry up and have kids. I have to fetch my own bunnies. Last time I shot a fallow it nearly killed me dragging it out. Slaves seem like the perfect answer!
