My first Mog (the rust files)
« on: April 03, 2016, 11:03:36 pm »
How do?
After looking about for a few years now I ended up finally buying a u900 with the cascade box, front and rear hydraulics and a rear PTO.
There is a lot of rust on the cab ( I am surprised I haven't fell through it yet). Sometimes I wonder if it's to much. Mechanically it seems pretty sound apart from an air leak and the brakes sticking on. First plans are to try and tackle the rust on the cab and put supports in to get the cab off so I can sort it out in a whole. Whilst the cab is off I am going to rub down the chassis and wax oil everything I can and just give it a good overhaul of service parts and cleaning it up.
its going to be used for Arb work so the plan is to get a 10inch ground fed chipper on the back and build a tipping chip box that goes up to the cab, this may change as I am thinking of putting a hiab behind the cab and the chipper on the front for nasty Hawthorne.
Going to try and make this thread picture heavy as I have took a few photos but I can't seem to upload them of my phone at the moment.
There's a few questions I have been meaning to ask;
Where's the best place to get service stuff like oil and brake stuff,
Does anyone have two spare doors because I think they are beoned repair.
The diff lockers wouldn't work, would this be due to the air leak, I was making 4 on the little dial, what is it meant to be?
What's the words of advice with projects like these what mistakes has anyone made? I think my first mistake maybe thinking about leaving the straight through pipe on.
I am useless with computers so there maybe a delay in replays.

Cheers
Joe

I'll just post a quick reply as I'm working, I'll get back to you on the other stuff later.

Do you have any pics of the inside of the doors? They look pretty repeirable compared to many I've seen! :P

Cheers, Brian

Nice little mog you have, don't worry about rust, it can all be cut out and welded.
The doors look ok to me, you can get repair panels for the door bottoms and door pocket. Sounds like your building a mog like I had in mind! I've a tp 760 chipper for sale soon if you want to get up and running quickly? Brian knows the one I have ☺

Forgot to add, which type of air actuator have you got in your mog? If it's an early mog, it's a big handle you pull in the cab, or if it's a later mog its a small switch in the cab?

Cheers casto, it seems like me have the same plans.
Yeah I am not to worried about it because I use to be a fabricator and the mog was cheap but still I need to get it working to make its keep. What's the Tp chipper like from a using point, I love jensons but the just a bit pricey, I have got my eye on a Farmi 260 that I use to use it just needs work done to it too.
Where do you get the door panel bits from this maybe easier than me trying to patch everything.
It's a 1977 disk brakes mog I think and I haven't found the air actuator yet, it was hard enough for me to figure the gears out ha.
Another thing is it needs the cab rubber mounts are perished and I wouldn't mind replacing them, I seen someone was on about Lamborghini rubber mounts do they do the job or are the originals easy to source?
Also it needs rear linkage is there any other tractors this can be switched from?

Wish I had the mog for that photo of the oak 😢

Cheers
Joe

The tp produces realy nice chip, nice enough to put in wood chip boilers (which is why I bought it but the job didn't come of) and for a 8-10 inch chipper runs realy well with low hp. Other advantage with this one is the pto comes out pritty much in the right place without a banana box.
Have a look o  the german ebay, there's a lot of parts on there, or there are a few dealers over here that will have it in.
I'll try get some pics of the air switch that does your 4x4/diff lock

77 u900 should be a lever right next to your leg pull it up two clicks you should hear air valve clicking.ten inch chipper is big for a u900 it will drive it but don't push it to hard as the pto box and clutch spline will suffer.
Ready your post your sticking brakes need sorting don't drive it with the brakes dragging as you'll cook the hub oil and that will destroy the hub gears very expensive to fix.

Cheers Castro, you will have to send me some photos of it.

I wondered if a ten inch chipper would be to much, to be honest I wouldn't be putting massive stuff through it all the time because most of the timber will go for logs but it's Laylandi that I would just blast through it.
I never knew that moose, luckily I haven't went far in it as it's just coming in and out of the garage.

Lol sounds like you chip stuff like I do anyway! The chamber of the chipper is at 45° so will cut timber better. As moose says, 10 inch is a big chipper on a u900.

It's the only way to make money  ;)!
45 degrees is better for the chipping and it's less stressful on the mog. I am not sure about the side feeding especially because it's the wrong side.

Anyways had a spare couple of hours so I did a bit more grinding and I have made a few more supports up but I need to get some 90x40 box for the sills. Then put the plate in and take the cab off and give it a good scrub up ready for painting.

Had a look for the lever next to my leg and couldn't find it, I guessed it was next to the handbrake but mine is knackered.
