U1300l Camper Conversion

Iíve really just completed the first job of the very long list.... replacing the awful driverís seat with a nice comfy one.
My wife & I both think our Land Rover Discovery is the most comfortable vehicle weíve ever owned, so I got a leather Discovery 3 seat from eBay & fitted it today.

It was effectively just a task of constructing an adapter frame to accommodate the different bolt positions.  Despite all the measurements, I did end up chopping 40mm off the height once I tried it, but Iím delighted with the result.  The electrics are not wired in yet, but thatís because I need to install a 12v inverter for a number of additions I plan to make.

Hereís some pict of the frame and the fitted seat....







Hoping to get radio & CB fitted tomorrow.

Love the hatch on the military Unimog but it does make it difficult to mount radios 😀

Made some progress with the electrics over the last 2-3 weeks and how have a couple of 12v circuits up and running, installed beneath the glove box.
1995-0
1997-1

Joined my old club (strictly for Land Rovers) today up near Rest and be Thankful to see how the old girl coped on frozen ice & snow.  A great day out & lots of admiring looks from the LR owners....

1999-2
2001-3

I do like the front grill when itís the same colour as the cab it modernises them 👍

Just collected this winch bracket from a local steel fabricator.
Took delivery of a Warrior Samurai 20,000 lb winch a few weeks ago in order to take all the necessary measurements.  Passed these on the the local company and for only £225 I have this beautiful piece of engineering.
Will post additional photos as it gets painted and fitted.
Iím undecided what to do with the towing pin at the front as this will prevent the pin being dropped in from above.  One option is to get a high tensile bolt which I can insert from below.  Any thoughts...?

Is yours welded on or bolted on the bolted one can be turned upside down and a retaining pin chained on it, the bolt idea works or you could weld two recovery eyes to to your new winch mount, I see your using the original implement mount bolt holes Iíd be be tempted to run two plates down the sides. Iíve seen winch mounts pull of the front of Unimogs in the past on my own machine 😂

Now sorted the front tow hitch issue with a 30mm diameter bolt.....

Finally managed to get the winch bolted onto the mounting plate and the plate bolted to the chassis at the weekend.  Still have some final wiring to do before I can test it, but Iím fairly pleased with how it looks....

Sheís booked in at AV next month for an engine swap to an OM366A, extra fuel tank and crown wheel & pinion swap.
Getting a rear winch bracket priced up locally and plan to fit the same setup to the rear.
Then (following your suggestion) weíre planning a trip to the Abenteur Allrad event in Germany in June to check out the camper conversion options.
Currently thinking of a composite body on the back kitted out for journeys of several months.
Then - providing the kids head off to university, we give up work for a while and head off travelling....

Thought the bracket looked a bit plain, so just sprayed these on..

Picked up a rear winch bracket today from the same local fabrication company.
Now just need to check it fits, paint it and buy another winch (£££ ouch).

Photos of air-horn install to follow this weekend (hopefully).....

Thanks Moose.  Iíve been giving that some thought since you posted it.  Does the weight concern arise from inadequate engine power to pull up up hills, from overloading the chassis and/or suspension, going over the 7.5 tonne limit or something else?

Because I was already 90% through it, Iíve now almost completed the bull bar a was fabrication for it.  However, because of your concern over weight Iíve made it very simple to install or remove...





Iíve also completed the air horn installation by plumbing it into the palm coupling up front and swapping out the NRV & filter with a PRV set at 10 bar....

Overall gross weight, thereís a plate on the passenger side dash board that will tell you her max weight 👍
